Just an FYI: today I called US Air to verify a couple of things about the Race to Preferred promotion that were not in the Terms and Conditions on their website. I found out that all the flights have to be on US Airways metal-United flights don't count even if you ticketed through US Air. I also discovered that they count actual mileage flown. For example, I have Gold status and get 500 miles as a preferred member on short hops like BOS-LGA, BOS-PHL, etc. For this promotion, they count actual mileage flown, which in the case of BOS-PHL is 280 miles. This makes going through CLT a better option for West Coast trips originating in the Northeast than PHL.
Although it is frowned upon by many here, I am trying to get to Plat or CP during this promotion. I've been Gold for years and due to my type of travel (mostly short hops), I have never been able to reach the next level.
If any of you have advice how to maximize miles from BOS during this promotion, I'm all ears. :)

I actually just did a run to PDX for $99 each way via PHL out of PVD. That wasn't quite enough for the 7500 miles I needed, so I also did a $64 each way to FLL. I'm pretty sure that those fares aren't around anymore, and with Thanksgiving around the corner, good luck!

Terms & Conditions
Only Preferred qualifying miles and segments earned on flights operated by US Airways and US Airways Express can be applied towards this promotion. Only base flight miles and segments, including Preferred segment minimums, count toward this promotion. Preferred-qualifying bonuses, e.g. class of service bonuses and miles earned on flights operated by US Airways’ partners, are not applied toward qualification criteria. Retroactive mileage credits will not count towards your status unless they are applied before December 29, 2009. Enter your Dividend Miles number at time of booking to receive your miles into your account. This promotion is subject to all Dividend Miles program terms and conditions.
You scared me there for a minute. I am going to just make 15k and the actual miles thing would have been a Gold deal breaker.

If you can get away midweek - there are some $79 to FLL and $94 back the first week of December via CLT (or PHL, but based on what you reported, CLT better option)

Sorry-I must be hard-of-reading! That makes me feel better too, not that I'd actually prefer to fly out of PHL (aka 'The Seventh Circle of Hell'), there are just more flights through there.

To be fair, the 500 mile minimums only work for people who are already Preferred. Those without status get actual flown miles on all but Shuttle flights. That's probably what the rep was talking about.

I have been doing LAX-PHL-BOS r/t and it is approx 5222 miles. The price has fluctuated from $199 to $239. But they have overnight flights from LAX which is a huge plus for me since I have no problem sleeping on the plane. Especially in 1st class.

I'm doing a BOS-PHL-FLL-PHL-SFO-CLT-BOS run in Dec which chalks up over 8000 miles for $331 incl. taxes. With my Berlin trip and regular business travel, it will more than qualify me for Chairman's.

BOS2DCA, let PM me if you book one of these again...I'd have done that trip in a heartbeat. I'd be happy to return the favor, but my mileage run skills are fairly new :)

I have to schedule travel runs around my work schedule, and typically I hate to do West Coast and back in 24 hrs. If I'm going to San francisco, I want to spend some time there. It's my favorite city next to Boston. Let me know what you're trying to do and I'll see if I can help. :)

I booked a flight on CO hoping to have it count towards the promotion. From what I'm reading it looks like it won't count! ugh! Figured I would take advantage of the alliance and try CO.

Yogi Berra might have come up with some wittier; meanwhile let me state it outright, some of the comments here like the one from "dtremit" have me reaching for the sick bag about achieving my next threshold with Dividend Miles. I thought I had it 'locked up'.
I've flown DCA-BOS lately; and ostensibly the shuttle flight is considered as 500 miles for everyone, since I got the miles to prove it! Secondly, being particular about actual flight miles sort of arrests one's creativity, so I am thankful to have read the comment about using CLT over PHL (and LGA?)
Quick question: the best I've been able to do out of DCA to the west coast (SFO or OAK) is to use USAirways own routing, e.g. DCA-BOS-PHX-OAK, its over 3300 miles. Is it possible to eke out some more without having to fly on a UA codeshare?
Lastly, isn't anyone else matching USAirways promotion? I know DL is not.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Pondflyer, do you currently have status on US?

Will have a small status run first weekend of December
together with some other needed flights should be enough to get chairman

Being a future DL Diamond and current US Gold, it has been very, very painful, but I should be able to pull of CP from this promo. Honestly, there is no way I could ever endure US as much as it would require for me to become CP under the normal terms.
The sad part is that with CO matching my DL status, there is really no need for me to be CP, so I may never really use the status once I gain it... Oh well, I am always up for a challenge.

out of curiosity, how much did this run cost and how long is it taking?

Pondflyer, do you currently have status on US?
I currently have Silver status that I had received through the recent US Airways promotion. Does that mean that the bonus miles that I have flown count towards the total 7500 needed to keep Silver? Or is it only actual miles flown?
And I apologize in advance if this is a repeat question, but, I think I will be about 1500 miles short by the end of the promo period. Is booking another ticket the best (or only way) to get the mileage? Or is there any other option.
All advice greatly appreciated!

Actual miles only. Bonus miles do not qualify for elite status.

Apparently so, since you (understandably) seem to hate US but want status on them anyway.
