Hello all, I will be going LAX to MEL in about a year and wondering weather it is worth another 20k AA miles to go First instead of business, either seat is fine for me, what I am more wondering whether the lounges, food and liquor are much different for business vs first.

I'll let the real QF experts provide all of the specifics, but especially if you're flying the A380 LAX-MEL, I would definitely spend the extra 20K. I'm doing LAX-MEL in early Feb in J on the A380 using CO miles.

If you have the points and can get a redemption availability in 1st , I would do it. You are guaranteed a horizontal bed in 1st class whilst , unless on an A380, will have a slopey bed in business.

The F lounge at Sydney is a lot nicer than the business lounge with a cook to order restaurant service in it

QF F isn't the best 1st around imo, but a lot nicer than business and worth an extra 20k r/t
