Maybe it's time for me to "misplace" my card every so often LOL

The seller certainly has a vivid imagination.

And to think of the number of black and platinum cards I have destroyed over the years as they expire or are cancelled / replaced. I wonder what a titanium would go for - I had to return mine to AmEx in a postage-paid envelope when a new one was issued (since you can't just snip it in half with sissors).

[Just kidding, of course, I would never dream of attempting to sell one.]

The seller also has an Amex Blue card that's currently up to $51.00.

Um, I got mine for free.

Why would anyone pay for someone elses' expired card? I don't get it.

Someone may just want to see what a real one looks/feels like.

"Fake it 'till you make it" has led to people buying cars, houses, and other toys they cannot afford. Still plenty of people out there who can't into the clubs so they hang around outside and parking lot pimp. Considering folks have come up with all sorts of ways to "skin" a card to look like a Centurion, I'm sure some poseur out there will shell the money just to have a black card in their wallet.

The faked "promotional" cards sell regularly on Ebay.

Ebay rules in the UK state that you can't sell a real card unless it's 10 years out of date

who is stupid enough to buy a worthless piece of plastic  (the picture shows a plastic Centurion) ... stupid is also the owner's text on Ebay, and full of incorrect facts.

Both AMEX products have been pulled from auction.

Charge/credit cards are wholly owned by the issuer, not the cardholder.

...and I was just gonna put in my bid...;)

maybe they're used for theft or something, why else would a blue card fetch such a price?

Not that I'm defending it, or even fully understand it, but there are people that collect rare and original credit cards.

I had a guy from Seattle, if I remember right, contact me about purchasing a Cent card I had when my renewal one was originally lost in the mail, then showed up some 8 weeks later, after I already had a new account number, etc, so it was essentially a dead card.

I had originally written him off as a possible scammer, but he sent me some pictures of the items out of his prize collection, he has one of the original Visa cards ever issued, some of the original Amex cards, etc. He was really fanatical about having everything that came with the card - he had some stuff from the late 1960's or 1970's and had everything - the envelope it came in, all the paperwork, stamp, and the new unused card. Kooky, like he used white gloves when handling them.

I think he offered me $450 for my dead Cent card, which was tempting, but I didn't want to get in some kind of snafu with Amex over it down the road, so I didn't.

The guy was for real, I googled him and he seemed completely legit. I think eBay even has a particular section where credit cards can be sold (or at least the used to), the only catch was that they had to be at least 10+ years past the expiration, or something like that.

ill admit i can see having a collection of all kinds of credit cards as being fun. but i wouldnt ever pay $400+ for one.....unless it was like one of the original purple amexs
