Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - CX AM to MPC SL experiences ?
Has anyone been automatically promoted from Asia Miles to Marco Polo Club Silver tier after flying 30K miles on CX/KA recently, i.e without formally applying and paying the fee ?
I only started flying Cathay in September, but through a combination of circumstances, have flown nearly 33K miles on CX/KA since then, though in discount economy (V/L class), and have more trips planned for early next year. I would like to know if anyone has been promoted recently under similar circumstances, i.e. flying 30K miles in a year in eligible fare classes as an AM member.

Just last month my mother got invited to become a MPC SL member from AM. She indeed racked up at least 30K.

That's how both my wife and I become MPO SL, and we have been loyal CX fan ever since. Before that we were Northwest elite flyers... LOL

Thanks for the responses! Do you recall how long it took to receive the invitation letter after your qualifying flights ? I'm a US resident.

I think it was pretty fast, but according to the MPC these are targetted promotions. So it is not by default that once you got the miles you will be invited to the MPC.
Same like CathayBoy - this is also how I became a member:p

Invitation to me after emailing MPO. Flew at least 1 rt HKG-JFK (Y) every year for the past few years. Otherwise, I would still be an ordinary AM member.

Ditto with Jamoldo. I was based in the states too when that happened.

An update on this: I send an email to MPC asking if they'd promote me from CX AM to MPC SL free, figuring "No! you start from scratch lah!' would be an unlikely response. I got a reply in less than 5 hrs saying yes, and my MPC site access was immediately available. Very cool.

For those that qualified, was all your flying on CX metal or did you fly mostly partner metal?

Why would CX upgrade an AM for flying partners.:D?
My case, HKG-JFK (CX) only for the past few years

In fact, my father was given complimentary SL even though he has around 25000 miles from CX + 15000 miles from AA. That was 2001, however.
