I am flying F from LAX-SYD with a 4 hour connection to CNS. Will there be any difficulty accessing the F lounge during the layover?
Another curiosity question - what type of champagne does QF offer in long haul F?
It will be very difficult as you are outbound from a separate terminal.

I have exactly 4 hours, so the time involved would definately be worth it. I'm just hopeful it is not forbidden due to any immigration circumstances. Should I just go straight to the lounge before clearing immigration, or how would you suggest I plan to go about it?
Arrivals and departures are separated by security/
To access the First Class lounge you would have to get to "departures". To do this you would need to pass though transit security. That's the easy bit. At the F lounge entrance you will almost certainly be denied entry as you flight leaves from another terminal. It's also a pain to get back to arrivals and immigration. Any checked luggage you have would still be awaiting your presence.
No, simply clear immigration collect any luggage and clear customs. After you clear customs you re-check your baggage at the "Seamless Transfer Check-in counters" and wait to board the Qantas shuttle bus for the Domestic terminal.
The bus arrives at T3 opposite Gate 1 and you can then head up to the entry (near gate 4) OF the T3 Domestic Business class lounge and await your flight to Cairns. (You can shower / breakfast there)

You cannot access the 1st class lounge on arrival.
Since you are connecting to a domestic service, on arrival you will need to clear immigration and customs and then head to the domestic terminal. There is no way for you to get to International Departures and access the 1st class lounge
In the domestic terminal , you will be able to use the business lounge

My question too, as Mrs. O.V. and I are flying F from SYD to LAX next May.

6 months time - it could be anything. The loadings from different ports varies. The stuff out of Sydney will most likely be some rather nice French muck with 1999 or 2000 on the label and an odd shaped bottle. :D

That name is such a misnomer. :)

As mentioned there is no F lounge access upon arrival. Security will attempt to stop you and if you manage to be successful, you might not make your CNS flight 4 hours later as immigration and customs will treat the invalid airside transfer as a smuggling attempt of some sort. Pick a day when the TV show is filming and you'll be sure to make on-air.
As for champagne, for the past decade QF has been using mostly Dom ex-LAX.

The (almost) only way you could get F Lounge access would be by having a connection from the international terminal. So JQ19 comes to mind when heading north. But to CNS this would add an extra stop so not worth the hassle.
Your other option is to book a full fare, fully refundable ticket which departs same day from the international terminal and then refund the ticket after you don't board...

Is it really worth the hassle. Given;
1. It is the morning
2. You will probably be tired
3. It will take you at least 60 mins to transfer across
4. Business lounges have good showers
5. Breakfast spread in the business lounge is good
It is a good lounge and much much better than an admirals club. Probably on par or better than the various Flagship lounges.
