<At the airport>
It was my first trip of this year but it was also my last trip that I could have chance to
meet 2 great United’s TPE ticket agents, Jenny and Teresa. It’s time to say goodbye
because they would be lay off on Feb 28, 2009.
Jenny and Teresa were not really UA’s employees and they belong to the World
Express Group, an agency for selling UA’s tickets in Taiwan. As a 1K flyer, I bothered
them frequently, but they were always friendly, helpful and professional. It was really sad
that I wouldn’t be able to see them in the future. Good Luck and Best Wish to you, Jenny
and Teresa!!
The piece that you hear on this website (http://pigx5.com/1KHOMEWORK09/reports/1-1/) is Ave Maria. I would like to present this piece to respectfully thank Jenny and Teresa for the great service that they had provided.

<TPE-NRT>
Flight Number:UA838
Departing From:Taipei Taiwan (TPE)
Traveling To:Tokyo Japan (NRT)
Date:January
Departure Time:11:00 a.m.

One of my friends, Wan-Jen, traveled with me on this flight. In fact, I booked this flight
for her so we could travel together for this segment. As a 1K member, I could reserve the
economy plus seat for her and I could show her the air lounge at TPE and NRT. I helped
her to get 21J, which has extra legroom, in economy class cabin although I was upgraded
to business class. After check-in, I asked her to go to the Singapore Airlines’ lounge first.
I couldn’t go with her until last moment because I was still waiting for the chance to do
VDB (volunteer denied boarding). After making sure that I wouldn’t be able to VDB,
it was almost 20-25 minutes before departure. I tried to pass the security and immigration
as soon as I could because I needed to help Wan-Jen to select the elite choice by using the
computer at the SQ lounge. If we couldn’t select here, she would lose her chance. We
were in a hurry but the internet and computer were really slow. Fortunately, we made it.

My seatmate just finished visiting his wife’s family in Taiwan and
on the way back to his home in D.C. We chatted a lot. During the conversation, we found
out that we both like photography. He used Nikon and I and a Canon user. We both took
lots of meal pictures on this trip. When I went home and visited his website, I found out
that he is a very good photographer.

The food on this route down graded even worse than before. In economy cabin, you could
choose one from two different main courses before, but now, you can choose eat or not to
eat. They served appetizer or salad followed by main course and then desert before. Now,
they served salad and dessert in one tray and then they served the main course. The
quality of the food was getting worse and worse too. The food was terrible but the service was great.

<NRT>
After landing, we needed to pass the security again. I figured out that United Airlines kept
a line for GS/1K/First/Business passengers. We had less than 10 people in this line but there were more than 100 people in the regular line. I hated the class polarization but
somehow I enjoyed this superior feeling this time……..

Of course, we visited the United Airlines’s Red Carpet Club to have a shower and to grab
the H2O shower amenity first. This was the first time that I found out there was tofu sushi
at this lounge. It was good to see the improvement. Then, we visited the ANA lounge for
food. Soon, it was time to say goodbye again. Wan-Jen flew to IAD and I flew to SFO.

<NRT-SFO>
Flight Number: 838
Departing From: Tokyo Japan (NRT)
Traveling To: San Francisco California (SFO)
Date: January
Departure Time: 5:10 p.m. on time

I chatted with my seatmate a lot again. He was a Global Service Member, the top tier of
the United Airlines’ elite. Our reading lights were both broken and we asked for a skykit.
But, they didn’t load any skykit on that flight. A very helpful flight attendant, Jennifer
#150424) kept tracking this for us. Finally, the purser wrote down what happened on her
business card and wished the ground grew would offer us the skykit.

As usual, I ordered Washoku Zen Meal, Japanese meal for the first meal. They had not
changed the appetizers and main courses for about 3 years. Again, I had the same main
course before. Although I liked it, I didn’t want to eat the same food again and again.
My seatmate was sleeping until 1.5 hour before landing. He then ordered his meal.
At the same time, I was eating my second meal.

<SFO-JFK>
Flight Number: 870
Departing From: San Francisco California (SFO)
Traveling To: J F K New York (JFK)
Date:January
Departure Time: 11:57 a.m. on time

Flight Number: 892
Departing From: San Francisco California (SFO)
Traveling To: J F K New York (JFK)
Date: January
Departure Time: 10:45 a.m.

I was fortunate that I was able to switch the earlier flight, UA 892. BTW, if you want to
standby for the earlier flight, don’t recheck your luggage after passing the immigration.
Please take your luggage to the check-in counter and ask for standby for the earlier one.
Once you recheck your luggage, they won’t let you change your flight.

Before we push back, I saw the female captain walked in and out of the aircraft several
times. I had bad feeling. Indeed, there was mechanical problem just as expected. It was
one hour delay.

United Airlines had cooperated with Westin Hotel recently. Besides the Westin renewal
Lounge, they also provided heavenly pillow and heavenly blanket on p.s. flight. I did
really like those products. Now, they had Westin DM on board and you could purchased
them from the DM.

I do like the shrimp appetizer but the lettuce wedge salad looked really disgusting. The
main course was not good either.

During this flight, I saw very beaufiful scene. The moon was just ahead of us and it was like
we were chasing it in the universe. The land was beautiful, filling with different colors. I really enjoyed
the different scenes in different season.

My luggage didn’t arrive with me. This time, I felt ok and I just asked them to deliver
to my place next day.

I like your photos and report. It looks like by your photos that you were in the old configuration 777 from NRT-SFO. How did you get into C? Did you upgrade or buy business class tickets outright?

Thank you for reading.
It was really pity that they let go the 2 great ticket agents.
Now, if you want to purchase new ticket or award ticket without any segment on UA. You have to go to their ticket office in Taipei city.
Non of the agent there as friendly and professional as Teresa and Jenny.
It's shame that they can't keep good employees but can't lay off lazy employees either. So does UA.
I am used to MX/WX delay and lose luggage.......after all, it's United Airlines.
I love it but I hate it too.
I really hope UA can be a better airline.
That's why I always write to complain about something bad and compliment those great employees who should be recognized.
Once again, thank you for reading.

Indeed, I was in C on the 777 from NRT-SFO.
As I mentioned, I was upgraded to C.
Don't forget, I am a 1K as you are and we have SWUs.
Otherwise, we all have great chance for operational upgrade.
