Hi TG Forum,

Not that I want to be controversial, bit it struck me today whilst enjoying (yet another) fantastic foot massage that there are no male massage therapists in the Royal Spa?

Interesting, but true...

Cheers,

If you didn't know who was massaging you, some of those girls are so hard, you would swear you had a truck driver on your back sometimes. ...... if it ain't hurting... as they say, regards bkkrop

I wouldn't want to run into some of those lovely ladies in a dark alley. I'd be seriously outmatched.

My experience suggests that 'massage' in any form is an unacceptable kind of employment for males in SE Asia (bar certain kinds of same-gender activities).

Sleeping on motorbikes ranks far higher for most males...as does being the recipient of massage.

Actually, I had encountered plenty of males doing it in Malaysia. I remember not too long ago while in Langkawi, my wife totally freaked out when a male masseur came into her room when she had robed off.

The massage shop I visited in KUL only had males.

In Bangkok, my favorite Thai massage shop in a mall has always had a couple male (and more female) employees. One man who has worked there for years has a wife and kids. The other man is newer, maybe 18ish, and probably would prefer a different job if he could get one.

My favorite massage place in BKK has one guy working there. On one occasion he was the only masseuse available and I will never, given the choice, have a guy again for massage. The woman tend use significant more force and have better technique.

Then again it's only an n=1 situation so it's fraught with potential problems.

This might be a slight generalisation... Perhaps?
