For an upcoming trip in 2010 to AKL I chose to burn a few points for a J-class QF flight from SYD. I have chosen the flight with a domestic connection via MEL to experience the MEL First Class Lounge for the first time [I know and love the SYD one already ;) ]
So, I now have a domestic flight in the morning SYD-MEL, catering is "refeshment" and a "dinner" flight MEL-AKL, it is QF131 on a 737-800 (hopefully one of the new ones with personal entertainment).

As catering is one important part of the flight experience for me, my questions are:
- what to expect on a SYD-MEL flight in J in "refreshment" catering?
- what catering do you get on QF131 as dinner? Are there choices of the main and of the dessert?

I am looking forward to your responses, thanks!

Well the new TT 738's should be rolled out ex mel as per previous threads.
Check them out for a review on J!
I had a very pleasent experience (inY) with the JetConnect crew TT recently.

I got a very nice steak sandwich on a refreshment flight a few months back (it was a 2030 departure though) - and managed to get seconds (J cabin was full, 3 paying passengers and nine dead-heading cabin crew).

Premium flying across the ditch (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trip-reports/994896-premium-flying-across-ditch-between-new-zealand-australia.html) includes a menu for your MEL-AKL flight.

More example menus in the all airline FT menu collection (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trip-reports/833998-all-airline-ft-menu-collection.html).

Thanks for your helpful answers and especially Kiwi Flyer for the links :D

If I manage to get a few pics on the trip, I will even post a short trip report...
