Is anybody aware of free, easy to use software that will allow me to plot my destination cities on a map, and then save the map and recall it, perhaps as a jpg, or at least an html link?

I've tried www.plotmytrip.com but can't get it to work.

I'd like to be able to input the cities I've visited and draw lines between them, indicating the routes flown.

www.whereivebeen.com and www.tripadvisor.com both have a "cities visited" functionality.

Neither offers the ability to combine that with a flight record--for that, you'll need to use www.flightmemory.com or www.openflights.org.

I'm not aware of an option that combines the two, though. If you find a good one, post it here--I might like to try it, too. :)

I don't know one that will let you connect the cities (which will get very confusing over time).

I like the trip advisor one, and if you are on facebook you can add it to your profile page so all your friends can use it too.

You can also do a google map, where each pin mark you can add text, pictures, etc and share that with others so they can read and see. I do that for many trips, when somebody says where did you go in Italy or Napa, I just send the link along.

For the big overview, the entire world, I like trip advisor. For details, I like google for individual trips.

If by the way you use an ekit international sim (not sure if anybody else offers this) you can activate a free option that will automatically put a pinpoint on a map every time you make a call, so that you don't really have to do much but check your messages at home to generate a map. That's editable, sharable, etc. They triangulate from the cell towers, GPS not needed.

www.everlater.com

Here is what one of my AYCJ Weekend Jaunts looks like:

OpenFlights will do it, too, particularly if you take advantage of their "trips" functionality. In addition to the master map showing all the flights you've taken (http://www.openflights.org/user/sbm12) you can have one that shows just flights from a specific trip (http://openflights.org/trip/13).

www.Travbuddy.com has a similar map feature to whereivebeen.com and I use that on my blog.

Flightmemory is run by the Flugstatistik folks and is basically an English version of Flugstatistik.
