I am looking to buy some asia miles to get a upgrade to business class for SFO to HKG. what is the best way to do this ? I read in the forum that i can buy starwood points and covert it to asia miles. anyone know how long does it take to convert this and how to do it..

Also if i have multiple legs in my trip, can i upgrade only one of the legs to business class using asia miles.

thanks in advance for the replies

* You can only buy 20,000 *wood points a year, which can be converted to 25,000 Asia miles (1:1 + 5,000 for 20,000 points transfer). 25,000 is not enough for an SFO upgrade (not even one-way), and is not even enough for you to do a top-up (again not even one-way).
* There is a risk that you may not get your upgrade after all the purchase and transfer. You need to check availability.
* On *wood page, I recall they said international transfers take 4-6 weeks. It is normally about two weeks for me, but it is difficult to say.
* Beware of the ticketing deadline!

Thanks for the response.

I forgot to mention i currently have 25,000 asia miles in my account.
Are there other ways to buy asia miles and convert (other than startwood).
I am planning to travel 2nd week of December. what is the typical deadline before which i have to upgrade.. is it 2 weeks before ?

is it possible to transfer miles from another asia miles member account ?

Topping up is a more direct way. You can check the Asia Miles web site for details. You need to have a certain percentage (70% ??) of the required miles for redemption in your account before you can top up.

I booked many of my upgrades within the last two weeks of departure. So the deadlines were much shorter. You can search for ticketing deadlines in other threads.
