Qantas Frequent Flyer - Messed up booking- what will happen?

Picked up a couple of seats LDH-SYD-BNE.

I then requested an upgrade an a BNE-PER sector,just to see if there would be space to plan how many Membership Rewards points I needed to bring over. I did not realise that this would take points out of my account automatically.

I am now left in the position where the LDH-BNE sector will not ticket as I will be 8k points in negative

I have phoned up QF and told them that I am bringing over 25k AMEX Membership Rewards points but they did not seem too interested

I take it QF will not allow you to go into debit, unlike some FF schemes.

I am not convinced that the LDH-BNE leg will automatically return to availability when my booking fails to ticket. Currently no availability as the system thinks I have made a valid booking.

Call Qantas FF Monday to Friday - the tend to have better agents.

It's too late now, but if you were looking for "upgrade" availability you either find a GDS which shows U class or look for business class award flight availbility.

Often cancelled award seats do not return to award inventory on high-demand flights (such as LDH). You may have just shot yourself in the foot, redeemed the only available seat which will then become revenue as QF has fulfilled its obligation to make awards available for that route and doesn't automatically keep the released inventory available for awards.
