West - PDX - Transit Info needed...

Hi folks,

My parents are flying SFO-PDX-AMS with a 55 minute layover at PDX.

SFO-PDX is on Horizon Air 2500 (arrival 1145) & PDX-AMS (dep 1240) is NW 764 (Delta Metal).

They are around 65 years of age - but in fairly good shape. They are not frequent flyers so tight layovers always get them worried.

So the Q? is, at PDX, would you consider a 55 minute layover (transfer from Horizon Air arrival Terminal to NW/Delta departure) a tight one? or do you think it should be comfortable?

Any hints / pointers are appreciated!

It should be comfortable.

They'll come in at A and leave from D. So what they'll have to do is follow the signs for the concourse connector/baggage claim/airport exit. The connector is just past security heading into C. They'll go down the connector and come out near D.

The walk is about 10-15 min. if I recall correctly.

Just remind them to use the connector and NOT exit security. As mentioned above, they'll pass the security exit first and if they're following the crowds will be out before they know it and will have to stand in line to re-enter. They shouldn't have any problem making their connection if they move along.

+1. 55 minutes is fine, especially if you round it back to 25 minutes for boarding time.

PDX is easy to navigate. I do echo to watch out for the security gates and tell them not to walk out, it happens easily.

If not, they might just decide to go standby on the earlier SFO-PDX flight and catch a nap at PDX, given 2 extra hours... oh, well...someday, I'm going to be just like them :p

If they do get in early from stand by, they may want to buy a day pass ($30.00) for the AS Boardroom, Delta also has one right near the gates they'll be flying out of, but I don't know the day use fee. It's a five minute walk from the AS BR to the D gates.

Or they could entertain themselves at the Rogue Brewery ^ which is also near the D gates.

Dittos. I've found PDX not only easy to navigate, but also one of the cleanest, most sedate, and generally nicest airports I've been at in the U.S. ...
