I have managed to snag a couple of seats to LDH from BNE in June

On the return looks like I'll have to come back via SYD

Does this go to the international terminal in SYD or domestic?

This would mean more miles so am weighing up the pros and cons of doing this or getting a DJ flight up to BNE/OOL instead.

LDH flights use SYD Domestic T2. LDH has a NSW postcode and under NSW Government administration via a local Board. No mobile phones though.

Just pay for the connecting flight in SYD but be aware that bad weather on LDH will delay or cancel flights - so a QF (award) flight on the same ticket may be a good idea.

Have a great time on LDH - its fantastic.

Thanks: it is an extra 4000 miles against $59 on DJ.

I take it that is worth it for peace of mind?

Yes, it will be worth it, wouldn't do two tickets.

Be aware that baggage limits to / from LDH are strictly enforced. And as og said, Lord Howe does not have a special status like Norfolk Island and is just a normal part of NSW.

You will need pre booked accommodation otherwise they might not let you fly.

14 kgs max. But you won't need much anyway. The first activity should be to go to the bike rental shop and get a bike for the time you are there. This beats walking everywhere. Don't bother with car rental unless you can't walk comfortably.

A former Premier of NSW used to spend every one of his holidays on LDH and was known to say that a week on LDH gets the same relaxation as 2 weeks anywhere else.

Some places have free bikes included when you stay there over night.

Capella South? I'd love to stay there - just for the view if not everything else!

Capella Lodge is great. And since the Bailies have children themselves they introduced a kids week once a year which is ^.
