Miles & More (Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, and other partners) - LON-SIN in business - 747 vs. A340 + Seating Advice needed
I am planning on flying from LON-SIN in business using miles and need advice on the trip. All of my travel on LH is short haul European and have never gone long haul on LH before (I tend use BA instead). At the moment I am not sure if there will be 2 or 3 of us going on the trip.
1. Should take the 747 via Frankfurt or the A340-600 via Munich?
2. What is the seat assignment policy on Lufthansa – as a SEN can I pre-book seats for the whole party?
3. What are the best seats on each plane for (i) a couple and (ii) family of three?
4. Is it possible/preferable to book the trip on Swiss instead? If so, how do you do this as no LX flights come up on the online booking tool.
Thanks,

Do you think you will get 3 C seats on the same flight using miles? Or are you talking anyseat awards?
1. Munich is always a nicer connection. Seats are the same on both planes, the 744 has a great section in the nose which is nice.
2. Seats can be assigned at booking.
3. Look at the Seating Thread
4. Yes and yes. And by calling the call centre. Or using Expert Flyer, LX, jetfriends etc.

If Swiss seats are available they automatically come up in the booking tool.
You can allways try a dummy ZRH-SIN booking to be sure that the problem isnot the connecting flight.

LX does no longer fly to SIN. The flight ends in BKK. To fly to BKK and than connect on TG or SQ to SIN makes no sense whatsoever.

Was planning to get two tickets using miles and buy the third (either in c or in y + evouchers).
Searched the Swiss site and the route is a SQ codeshare – I assume you won’t be able to get a companion award on this route.
I expect this is down to personal preference, but if you were a family of three on the 744 would you take row 1ACH, 4ACD or DEG in one of the rows in the second cabin?
Are there any major differences in the product between the a340 and 744 - according to seatexpert there is no AVOD in the 744?!?

No AVOD in Y on 744 but same deal in C, no matter if Airbus or Boeing.

Perhaps you should also consider to buy 2 C class tickets using the many 2-4-1 specials out there right now (e.g. TG) and to get the third ticket on miles ?
Some of the Middle East airlines also have very low C fares right now too. check out QR, GF, EY or EK to get to SIN, albeit having to stop somewhere in the desert for refueling.
I purchased a lot of C class tickets this year instead of spending miles as the fares were so low. Instead I redeemed additionally in F.

1- 744 via Frankfurt.
2- If all of them in the same PNR.
3- for the 744 10 DEG and for the A346 3 ACD
4- Don't fly LX on the A343 to BK and then onward with SQ to SIN. LH seats much better than LX and SQ seats from BKK to SIN are rubbish.
