Slight debate here...
We are taking flight 881 from LAX to HKG in J. F is now available as well. This flight leaves at 01:05 a.m. I say stick with J since chances are we'll be sleeping a big portion of the flight and won't really enjoy the full F experience. I'm being nagged to switch to F. Thoughts?

If it's 1 a.m. and as soon as it takes off you're hitting the sack, then there's no reason to get F. J is very comfortable to sleep in of itself. Save it for next time.

+1 If you're sleeping for most of the flight, and you don't have a large frame, the J bed is adequate.

Bearing in mind that the flight takes off at 4pm HK time, my approach would be to stay up very late the night before in LA, go to bed about 7am, sleep until 4 or 5pm. And take F to enjoy it.

But yes, if all you're going to do is sleep then take J.

I take F *so that* all I can do is sleep. YMMV.

And since the OP says that F is 'now available' I'm guessing it's a reference to an award ticket where the increased cost in miles really isn't very much. Their profile says they're an AA Plat so am guessing we're talking AA miles here.

I agree, F is the way to go! it's really not that much more miles required if this is an award ticket.

Also, you must factor in who's doing the nagging. If the naggor really would prefer F, you (the naggee) might be much happier for the rest of the trip if you go F.

Or as jfe said to me when I married mrs. gleff several years ago, "Happy wife, happy life"

Wiser words were never spoken ^

Alternatively, put naggor in F and you stay in J. That way, you'll get an even better night's sleep. ;)

There are two issues:
* When the nagger in F finds nobody to nag at, he/she will be back to J to nag at the naggee.:D
* Even if that does not happen, life will return to normal (so will the nagger-naggee relationship) the moment both are off the plane.:D:D

Back to the topic, in my opinion J is good enough if you are going to sleep all the way.

..and risk ruining the entire holiday .......??!!!;):D

Well I'm split down the middle honestly - if you are only sleeping then J though I'm NOT a fan of new J :td: but as I did LHR to HKG in J I boarded, ate after takeoff and slept the rest of the way until we ate some more before arrival

BUT...having also done F and knowing F awards don't come available often and those new F seats are awesome we'll I might be inclined to be up front. If neither of you have done this then I guess you should. Last time I did I slept 50% and was in recliner mode the other 50% of the trip. Enjoy CX is dreamy!

Aside from the (extremely funny) naggor/naggee dynamics, I suggest thinking of it like this:
- have you experienced CX F?
- do you want to?
- have you the chance to e.g. through upgrade or whatever?

If the answers are all yes, then why not have a treat. Whether you sleep immediately after takeoff or stay awake then sleep, the flight is long enough that you will enjoy it.

CX F is state-of-the-art, I mean it. Go for it by all means!^

Ok! Ok! :D

Thanks for the entertaining replies...made me smile. Since the mileage difference is so minimal, I called this morning and switched to F. I'll just stay up a little longer and enjoy the flight.
