OK, probably noddy question, but I think I'll ask anyway.

I'm tempted to head back to London just for Xmas (i.e. 24 till 27 Dec). Was really looking for a cheap business class deal, or business class redemption, however not to be found.

Just checked availability for CX in F and they have it. Its 180k AM. Now the noddy question, is it worth it?

I have the AMs (but mainly tied to credit card, so I suppose it will take some time for them to move over to my Marco Polo Club account).

Give it a couple of weeks - it will open up. Should you go for F? Yes, simply because the seat is excellent. Chances are, since X'mas is one of the least busiest times of the year to go to London, you'll get the whole F cabin to yourself too.

If you want to save your miles, there are many cheap J deals to be had, but none of them is ex-HKG. Try looking at ex-TPE and search for relevant threads in this forum.

Hi, cheers, I've already tried an ex-TPE routing, but none of the I class offers are available, all coming at full priced J.

What I'm saying is that F is actually wide open at the moment, and they have seats available for the flights I want to take (if I go, as I'm not sure whether its worthwhile heading back to London for three days).

try OW (OneWorld) awards for "better" worth of miles (depends on your perspective), since you'll need 2 non-CX airlines, or CX+2 other airlines...

I did BA+CX+JL back in July in J and find it more interesting than a J award in CX. FWIW, HKG-LHR-NRT-HKG in F is 155000 miles. or you could split the trip using QF and BA.
Of course, if you want to fly direct on a flat bed, then you're quite restricted on spending 180000 :) (Assuming QF hasn't start selling F on HKG-LHR again)

I recently did 180K AM for HKG-LHR-HKG in F on CX and it was definitely worth it.

In hindsight, for the same number of miles I could have probably done HKG-LHR on CX and LHR-HKG on BA and then been able to enjoy the new F facilities at LHR T5, but I was in a hurry and had to ticket quickly and didn't want to have to call MPC to ticket.

Plus, from what I hear the inflight F product is much better on CX than BA (though I've never tried BA F before).

Thanks guys.

Would be fine doing another routing, I.e. such as JAL, on problem is timing! The CX flights work out perfectly in terms of departure (i.e. afternoon flight on 24 and afternoon flight on 27, which gets me in on 28th at 7am ready for work).

While F sounds great, I would be happy "slumming" it in J though. I guess I will look into it, however need to transfer over some credit card miles first, which will take some time!

Please bear in mind that transfer takes time and there will be a ticketing deadline. However, if you wait for the transfer to happen, the award may be gone.
