Hyatt Gold Passport - only matched to platinum status

I'm gold with spg, and was about to move all of my stays to hyatt next year (probably about 30 stays). I have 17 stays with spg this year and likely will end the year with about 26 stays. I thought all I needed was 10 stays in the past 12 months to be matched to diamond, but the email i just received only matched me to platinum. And I'm not looking to re-earn status as i'm going to make platinum with spg this year. What is the best way to go about getting this fixed, or now that they've put a match through am i just SOL?

Gold on Starwood is not equivalent to diamond on Hyatt. Platinum on Starwood is. It's unfortunate that you asked for the match while gold. I've no idea if this would be successful, but if I were you, I'd contact Hyatt and ask them to revote the match, saying that you'd like to ask once you have platinum status at Hyatt.

i know that, but what people on here have said (and what hyatt csr said when i called gold passport) was that all i needed for status match to diamond was 10 stays within the past year, which is why i requested the status match now as opposed to waiting until the end of the year when i will be starwood plat (essentially-i want to start staying at hyatts now, instead of waiting until next year)

You must have misunderstood. For a status match to Hyatt Diamond you would need Platinum with SPG AND 10 stays within the past year, not just the 10 stays.

In the past, Hyatt has given Diamond to HHonors Gold which is far easier to earn. I would call back and speak to a supervisor or another agent. If it fails call customer service and see if they will bump you up on your belief that if Hilton got it SPG would as well.
If not, I would cancel the status match since it is only once in a lifetime, and use it when you have an even match to Diamond. Platinum isnt worth much anyway -- where were you when they were giving out Platinum this summer?

That would make sense, but:
Yes, Hyatt even matches Hyatt Diamond with Hilton Gold. You will have to send in a statement showing your stays.
No, you keep it.
Usually to the end of the year, then you have to have re-qualified by then or you would lose it. Depending upon when you get it, they may give you end of the year plus next year to re-qualify.
And even more convincingly proving that diamond should be awarded:
Dear FlyerTalk Members:
Upon review of this thread I found some information I wanted to clarify. Hyatt Gold Passport does offer the ability to tier match with our competitors as a once in a lifetime offer. We request you provide your most recent statement that reflects your elite status and either ten (10) stays or thirty (30) nights within the past twelve (12) months with the competitor. Please provide the complete statement that lists each stay as the summary is not sufficient for our needs. You may fax this information to our office at 402-593-9449.
Thank you for choosing Hyatt Hotels & Resorts for your travel needs.
Sincerely,
Karen Smith

I would also recommend calling back since Hyatt Diamond is given for Hilton Gold and even Radisson Gold

Re-read what the Gold Passport Concierge said. It is a tier match. You need to show your current elite status and 10 stays/30 nights. Given that SPG Gold is roughly equivalent to the Platinum tier at Hyatt, I'd say you got an appropriate match. If you had SPG Plat (and 10 stays/30 nights), the equivalent tier to match to at Hyatt is Diamond and that's where you'd be.

but then my question would be why hilton gold gets matched to hyatt diamond? also, when i called the csr before i requested the status match without telling them anything about my status with starwood, she said they would match to diamond if i could send them the summary that showed either 10 stays or 30 nights. It is possible that she was misinformed, however since they have been known to match hilton golds it seems that they should match starwood golds because it is no easier to obtain 10 stays at starwood than to obtain 10 stays at hilton. whether its easier to obtain gold is another story, but i clearly showed them that i would have obtained gold the real way.

Hilton Gold requires 16 stays or 36 nights while SPG Gold requires 10 stays or 25 nights, so while neither is as high as Diamond on Hyatt, clearly the minimum requirements for Hilton Gold are closer to Diamond on Hyatt than the minimum requirements of SPG Gold are.

Not with those fastracks Hilton does, they aren't! ;)

Not with those fastracks Hilton does, they aren't! ;)And I have SPG Gold every year from my AMEX Platinum card regardless of how much I stay with them (though I have actually qualified for it this year with 10 stays). Hilton Fast Track promos seem much less common now than they were in the past anyway.

True. Could also be that Hyatt is tightening its qualification in response to all the disaffected Hilton members who say they are bolting. ;)

AMEX Surpass gives Hilton Gold regardless of how much you stay with them. This combined with 10 stays gets you Hyatt Diamond so I don't see why Starwood is different.
I do not know the accuracy of this website but it seems to confirm that SPG Gold just gives Hyatt Plat

Gold is hardly at status on SPG let alone equal to Diamond in Hyatt's program...hardly even a match to Plat in this program. Anyone with an Amex Plat card can get Gold with SPG, and all it gets you is the same 3x per $1 that all Hyatt members get as their base. SPG puts you on their "special" floor for Golds, but that's nothing special. No upgrades, no breakfasts, no other benefits. You have to show Hyatt that you have had an actual 25 stays with another program to get a match to Diamond.
You still have two months to stay 13 times at Hyatts (at 2x per stay) to earn Diamond for 2010, and also pick up 6 free nights. A lot better than SPG's current 4th Q promo.

Yes, but even if you have HHGold, you still need to prove you've had 10 stays in the past year (a ridiculously low number in my view as it requires 25 stays for the rest of us to qualify/requalify, or the requisite number of nights. You really can't show that if you just did a simple fast-track for HHGold.

I am glad that that is the case because in years past that is exactly what some people were able to do -- fastrack Hilton Gold with 4 stays and then unbelievably Hyatt gave them Diamond as a status match.
I am glad that Hyatt apparently has tightened up their qualifications considerably.
Welcome Sansei, Hilton will be but a pale memory after you stay with Hyatt.

the thing thats weird is that with they are matching people from hilton that have 16 stays (with that they can get hilton gold-and also obviously the 10 stays in 12 months). But i have 17 stays at starwood (actually 18 if you include the most recent one that posted but they don't know that) and they won't match me to diamond. But, I digress.
I talked to the guy who put the status match and he said the match to platinum doesn't count as the "once in a lifetime match" and once i reach platinum with starwood i can receive the match to hyatt diamond. (which will only be in 3 more stays-so should happen by november 17) We'll see whether i decide to switch to hyatt after that-maybe as a starwood plat ill get treated better than i have been and decide to stick with starwood.

UPDATE: Just matched to diamond. Hyatt has now officially obtained all of my business (except if i have to stay somewhere where there is no hyatt)
