I have a credit from a prior Southwest ticket that I could not use. It will expire in mid-December, and I will not be able to use it before then. I read that after it expires, I could bring it back to life for a $50 fee. But what about before it expires -- can I get it extended without paying the fee? I would hate to waste it.... Thanks.

No, you cannot extend the credit without paying a fee. Note that you will have 1 year after you pay the fee and that you have up to 1 year after the credit expires to extend it.

Thanks. What if I wanted to sell or give this credit to someone else, who could use it before its expiration? If such a sale were prohibitted by the carrier's rules, I would not do this -- I have no interest in breaking the rules. But if someone did that, I suppose there would be no way the airline would know about it?

I thought it was 6 months of life for the new credit.

Paid travel funds are your property, to sell if you like. However FT's rules prohibit cash transactions of any sort. If the value of the credit is less than $250 or so, selling it at a discount is probably your best bet.

OTOH, buying ticketless funds from a stranger can be trouble. The funds could have been obtained by use of stolen credit card information, meaning that Southwest will void the funds as soon as they learn of the fraud.

What NSX said. I have relatives who will purchase WN tickets and then I will monitor the fares, rebook them if the fare comes down, give them the money and use the credit for my next flight. It is perfectly within SWA rules.

I used to buy ttf until I had a problem with funds that apparently were purchased with a fraud cc. I was lucky and after much hassle ( going to a wedding son being denied seat) I did get my money back but it was totally not worth it
I do switch funds with my sister when they are close to expiring

I wish there were some site to join where people could trade their tff funds
