Other Credit Card Programs - Getting free miles/points on your credit card

I haven't been on Flyertalk for some time, but back when I did I know that people were always looking for ways to charge things to their credit card, and then be able to get those points without actually spending the money.

I now have such a way, though I don't necessarily recommend it to everyone. It involves poker, so optimally it would be best if you were interested in playing online poker (or other gambling would be okay). If you don't want to do that, then you might not be able to do this too often.

Anyway, at least some of the online poker sites (and I'd be happy to refer you if you are going to play poker) allow you to deposit money using a credit card. Bodog for instance, allows this. But then they allow you to withdraw free by check (they send it Fedex, and allow one free withdrawal per calendar month).

You could deposit money, and if you want you could play some very low stakes poker just to make them think you aren't trying to take advantage of them, and then withdraw it in time to pay off your credit card.

The caveat - Bodog says that they are not responsible for how your credit card company treats the transaction. They say that most of the time it is a normal purchase transaction, but on occasion some companies call it a cash advance - this would not be worthwhile. I tried it on an AMEX and it was fine, and they said that AMEX usually is fine.

If you are a poker player, you definitely might want to consider this as a way to accrue free miles. If you aren't one, I definitely wouldn't try to get you to start.

Most online gambling sites are considered "cash equivalents" and do not earn miles. Many also accrue interest at the cash rate from date of purchase

Set your cash advance to -$0- and go for it. Or fund for more than your cash advance limit. Report back any success.
