bmi diamond club - Use your AMEX card to book a bmi flight and get BD silver

Offer through the post that I couldn't find a thread about:

Book your next business class or Premium economy flight with bmi from the UK to any destination in Europe, Asia, the Middle East or Africa before 15 Jan 2010 and when you register at flybmi.com/amexsilveroffer you'll be upgraded to Diamond Club Silver membership

(if you are already silver or gold you'll get 10k status miles).

T&Cs - only valid for recipients of the mail. Flights must be purchased using your amex card. Offer only available when you book a bmi operated scheduled flight in business or premium economy (c, d, j, a, p, i, u, l classes) between 26 October and 15th January.

So... it doesn't say round trip, so would doing a one-way business class EDI-LHR qualify do we think? Would be nice to get access to the showers in the star lounge in February! :D

Hmmm .... the key word seems to be 'book', not 'fly'!

Do they mean MBNA BMI Amex or any old Amex?

It can't be the MBNA Amex since I don't have one!

Given the Amex I do have, I suspect it's an Amex plat offer - I don't see you getting this with the BA Amex :D

You say it came through the post... what is this "post" you speak of?

But seriously, if it is an amex platinum offer, it sounds too good to be true. I wonder if it's on the platinum site - they usually are pretty good about posting offers there.

Edinburgh, with the exception of two days last week, has been receiving post. Of course, if the post originates in a strike-ridden area, there is then a problem.

Mind you, I'd swap the postal problems for the tram problems anytime ;)

WHere does it say that? I checked the website http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/diamond-club/diamond-club/promotions/amex-offer-terms-and-conditions.aspx and I cant see anything that says that?

It worked for me - well what I mean is that I received the message saying my miles would be credited shortly.

Thank you for booking your Business Class or Premium Economy flight with bmi.
We hope you enjoy your flight and all the extra exclusive privileges we can offer you with Silver membership of Diamond Club. If you were already a Silver or Gold Diamond Club member your account will be credited with 10,000 status miles shortly.
We look forward to welcoming you onboard.

I have an Amex Plat card but have not yet received any notification about this in the post.

I booked a one way business LHR-DUB, I booked the return in economy separately just in case all legs of the booking needed to be in C. Doing it this way has the disadvantage of paying two lots of credit card fees though.

I think this particular promo may be targeting in the way most IHG Priority Club promotions are - sent to a select few, but in reality anyone (in this case anyone with an Amex of some sort) can take advantage.

Although if you have a bmi Amex I suggest you select 'American Express' rather than 'bmi American Express' as your card type as this promo sounds like it's run in association with Amex rather than MBNA.

Has anyone else with blue/blue+ status only done this?

It appeared to work fine for me (i.e. I got the "Thank You" page) but my status remains as blue+.

I'm assuming there is some sort of back end processing and/or manual validation required. But if it's been "instant" for anyone else, it would be good to know rather than wait weeks for a silver pack that's never going to show.....

So if you are over your 55k limit I wonder if this then turns into 20k miles.

Who needs mileage runs?

;)

[Edit:
Ah actually reading that again you arent going to get destination miles with this are you - just the 10k status miles. Mind you I guess if you are over the 55k limit for the year (as I am about to be) then the 10k status gets converted to 10k destination miles. ]

I think so, but it's difficult to tell!

DClass4Me, I should be doing mine over the weekend...

First line of the T&Cs given on the card sent to me through the post ;)

Can anyone confirm from experience that the offer works with bmi (mbna) AmEx cards?

I got the offer through the mail just weeks after ditching my American Express-issued AmEx for the bmi co-branded one.

I'd be truly sick if it only applied to non-bmi cards.

The other point of uncertainty is whether destination needs to be outside the UK. The mailer says "Europe", but nowhere I can see is it clarified if a Uk domestic flight is considered flying to "Europe" or not.

Has anyone booked an economy and business on the same booking and been successful ?

Or am I going to be the first?

[ OK I chickened out and did it as 2 seperate bookings in the end]

I am a blue card holder, got the thank you etc - still showing as blue on DC, think I read somewhere that silver packs would be sent out within approx. 3 weeks of booking. So assume status will change once card and pack issued - hopefully.

I suspect you could put your car registration plate and auntie's phone number in that form and you would still get the 'Thank You' page. It doesn't necessarily mean you have succeeded.

I see the URL for the T&C's, but is there somewhere a page to register for this offer?

Or is it simply book and pay with AMEX and you get this?

Thanks for pointing me to right link!

I registered details nearly 3 weeks ago, still a Blue, I know T and C's say within 3 weeks, just wondering how the process is working?

Indeed - Is it possible to book a fully refundable, get the points (within 3 weeks of booking) and then cancel flight? Nothing in the T's and C's about taking the flight...thoughts?

lol, well, you can always try - if it works let us know. (Do bmi refund their credit card surcharge I believe, even on flex ticket? I always book through a travel agency) - even so, £4.50 for 16k miles isn't too bad!

Nothing here, although I'm not at the 3 weeks mark yet, but I actually take the flights this week...

Has anyone received either their upgrade or the points?

I booked 1st Nov and it's now more than 3 weeks (OK only just) and no sign of points being added.

(Flight isnt until just after Xmas I admit)

Just wondered if anyone's reward had come through?
