This surely is a puff piece for United, but phrases such as...

"When United took delivery of its first Boeing 737 in 1968, passengers still donned their Sunday best..."

"The 737, in turn, revolutionized air travel."

"In the hands of Southwest Airlines, which boasts an all-737 fleet, and other low-cost carriers it became a plane for the masses."

"It was the right size, right operating economics at the right time..."

"...737 'classics,' as they're known in aviation..."

...evoke memories of what was said about the DC-3, the workhorse of its time. Anyone (know anyone ;)) who remembers back that far?

A friend who is a retired Delta chief pilots like to tell the story of when DL took delivery of it's first DC3. The CEO and the the head of Flight Ops looked up inside the cabin and said "How in the Hell are ever going to fill all those seats?"
