Lord Myners travels 'economy' on his five-star mini-break
Financial Services Secretary Lord Myners has enjoyed a five-star mini-break in Majorca.

Despite an estimated £30million fortune, the Myners family travelled economy.

But, says a fellow passenger: 'When he tried to blag his way into the business class lounge at Palma airport, he was turned away, even though he was ostentatiously brandishing his official "HM Treasury" briefcase. He was forced to sit on a plastic chair outside Burger King.'

The Mail doesn't identify airline or route. Are we to believe it was BD PMI-LHR? And why is the Mail hiding this important item of information?

What exactly is an "HM Treasury" briefcase?

Are those the ones with a royal crest emblazoned on the side above the letters DYKWIA embossed in gold?

I don't know, but should he have been using his 'work' briefcase on a mini-break with his family? Heaven forbid that he was on a publicly funded business trip.

Tough crowd here...

Why not (equally) conclude that "unobtrusively carrying" was interpreted by this "fellow passenger" (who.. naturally was NOT identified) as 'brandishing"..

Heaven forbid that he might - like many folks - have actually have taken a bit of work on holiday with him...

Aren't I in a generous mood tonight! :D

The Daily Heil has never been strong on facts, now, has it.

If we're being generous, it was a case of a government minister, probably a BA GCH, going to the lounge, asking if they can get access (it's cardholders only, but you never know) and being turned away. Member of the public sees this, knows a paper that wants to score political points, and does so.

On a point of order - all ministers are unelected - they are appointed by the Queen on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. Some may be members of the House of Commons or House of Lords, but that is quite separate to their appointment as government ministers.
