I'm just wondering about the Terrace Lounge which BA shares with CX.Is it true that CX passengers are not able to indulge in the pre flight buffet which I understood from one of the forums and that the restaurant in the lounge is solely catered to BA passengers??!!!Is that true?? If paying so much on J with CX and JFK lounge only provides such miserly "food" like chips/cookies and tiny sandwiches :td:,then that's absolutely ridiculous!!!!

I hope it's not going to be the first and last time I'll be flying with CX.I also came across much distressing talks about the quality of the food and cost cutting measures CX has taken on a long haul.

Yes it is for BA Club Passengers only.

I've only been offered a couple of times as a paying F class CX passengers when the flight departed in the wee hours of the morning to YVR/HKG. But as the flight departed so late... there was hardly anything left to eat anyway..

CX has no control of the offerings in the lounge as they are basically contracting it from BA (Hence the term, Terraces Lounge and not the usual official Cathay Pacific Lounge ala Wing / Pier decor) and they dictate who can use their pre-flight dining options.

How distressing do you think it is .. if you're trying to compare it with what airline? Their J class offerings are still substantial if you compare it to say , BA even... but less in the case of some Middle Eastern carriers.

BTW, welcome to the Cathay Pacific Asiamiles forum.

Not true. I was told if I had MPO GL or DM then I can use it, and I suspect a F paying passenger can use it as well.

Not true. You can use the lounge but you can't partake in the buffet which is for passengers travelling in BA Club World only.

For such a premier route for CX, and with 3 times daily flight, I expected CX to do a better job at procuring their own lounge. The BA lounge is a joke.

CX F passengers have historically been entitled to the Pre-flight Supper. Perhaps this changed recently, though probably not. I imagine it's most useful in the summer when flight 889 leaves earlier in the evening. I don't think the supper is open for the departures of 831/841.

You might have noted that they wrote down your boarding pass information when you used the facility as a CX F passenger. They do that for a reason.

You're provided a full meal on board CX as soon as the flight reaches cruise altitude, you really need to eat a hot meal beforehand? Are you a Southwest frequent flier? ;)

BA, on the other hand, has very limited food offerings on board its East coast redeyes to LHR.

I also came across much distressing talks about the quality of the food and cost cutting measures CX has taken on a long haul.I find that the main courses in J aren't particularly good, but everything else is great.

Not entirely true. The pre-flight dining is only for passengers on a Sleeper Service (http://www.britishairways.com/travel/cwsleepservice/public/en_gb).

Yes, the pre-flight meal is for BA Club Sleeper Service only. BA is not going to serve meal again once you are airborne. It was done so to maximize sleep time. I was on F going from JFK to YVR two weeks ago. I wasn't reminded that I could take the pre-flight dinner. I used to get reminded that I could use the buffet. Perhaps I was too late for pre-flight dining. Anyways, I normally do not take up their offer and just have a drink in the lounge.

Just never thought tis'll happen on a 5 STAR/PREMIUM airline ;) QR/SQ uses a "decent" lounge so why not CX?

What's not decent about the BA lounge at JFK? There are sandwiches and snacks which is better than some other top airlines offer at other airports. If this really concerns you then I think you better take CO.

We should compare CX with 1st class carriers and not with lousy carriers like CO or AA or any american-based airline. My mum always say "Compare with the best"

Personally, I'd rather have little sandwiches and other snack items than only a full meal opition when in a lounge.

This is my big gripe with the F side of the CX HKG lounges. There is only the food available in The Haven, but no bar type area in the rest of lounge where one can get mini sandwiches, chips, etc. If these are available from the lounge attendants, it isn't in writing anywhere.

What I would like to see CX arrange is for F pax to have access to the Concorde Room at JFK. With no more than 6 people per flight, it should be doable.

I know that crisps (chips in American), olives and nuts are readily available on request.

Thanks. I've helped myself to the J sandwiches a few times. Was unaware of the crisps, nuts and olives being available, but now I know to ask. Would be nice if the servers pro-actively offer it, but so be it.

Exactly, I think BA Terraces is a perfectly good lounge for business class. The BA F lounge, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired for an F lounge. They should definitely arrange for access to the Concorde room for F passengers. Also, does QF F get you into the Concorde room? It didn't a few years ago, just the lousy BA F lounge.
