I have a few flights to make in November - both long and short haul. What bubbly will be served during the month of November?

Any idea as to the brand? david870mdg Oct 28, 09, 8:08 am Charles Heidsek, at least every time i've flown). Don't get too excited, QF doesn't pop the Krug in J. 747-444 Oct 28, 09, 8:18 am Didn't expect Krug in J. In fact are there any carriers who serve Krug in J? What about in J short haul? Anything on that? What are they serving in F? QF009 Oct 28, 09, 12:32 pm Didn't expect Krug in J. In fact are there any carriers who serve Krug in J? What about in J short haul? Anything on that? What are they serving in F? My trans tasman flight in J earlier this month had the same Charles Heidsieck NV as served on long hauls. There used to be Lanson NV but I have not seen it for at least 18 months now. I have not flown QF F since Feb but on my flight (QF30 LHR-HKG-MEL) they were serving a combination of Krug, Dom Perignon 2000, and a single bottle of Charlie H 95 which was rustled up after I enquired out of curiosity. I believe Taittinger Comtes 98 has also been thrown into the mix. As for carriers that serve Krug in J, IIRC Jet Airways comes the closest with Dom Perignon in J. eoinnz Oct 28, 09, 1:57 pm Domestically they serve a Sparkling Wine, not Champagne and isn't available till after take-off As others have mentioned it's most commonly Charles at the moment on international flights number_6 Oct 28, 09, 5:05 pm Fwiw, Charles Heidsieck is one of the best tasting champagnes for its price point (and much better than the more famous Piper-Heidsieck); also served by several Oneworld airlines so maybe this is an example of the Oneworld joint acquisition strategy. In any case kudos to QF for good taste in champagne selection. As for F, if only they ever stocked the better half of the rather long F wine list.....somehow it is always the cheaper (and worse) half that gets loaded. I'm beginning to suspect that some of the wines are "paper only". I used to buy lots of Krug for home consumption at USD 100 per bottle, but now that it is over $200 I've stopped buying. Wonder how long the airlines will continue to carry it (if their costs have also doubled). david870mdg Oct 28, 09, 5:32 pm Charles Heidsek, at least every time i've flown). Don't get too excited, QF doesn't pop the Krug in J. :( Krug was pushing it.... Just as a tease, has anyone flown AF and been served Moet in Y? :p SYDguy Oct 28, 09, 5:52 pm :( Krug was pushing it.... Just as a tease, has anyone flown AF and been served Moet in Y? :p Plenty of times, but it's not always Moet. Often the smaller marques that we see once and never again as offres promotionnelles for €16 at Monop. I'm beginning to suspect that some of the wines are "paper only". Now, now. I am sure they had at least one bottle of each of the good ones. Specially reserved for flights the CEO/Directors are flying. 747-444 Oct 28, 09, 7:10 pm I personally quite like the Charles Heidsieck. I last flew QF F a few years ago and they were serving a vintage Moet and Chandon early 2000s. QF009 Oct 28, 09, 8:56 pm :( Krug was pushing it.... Well, they served Dom Perignon Rose in J for the inaugural A380 service to LHR. Enjoyed it much better than any ole Krug I can tell ya! :D I do prefer Krug to regular DP though; but my fave F champers is still vintage Charlie H so I hope to get it on my F flight/s in Dec. :) drewbles Oct 28, 09, 9:02 pm Well, they served Dom Perignon Rose in J for the inaugural A380 service to LHR. I have polished off quite a few bottle of that in QF F over the past 2 years (and have only taken 2 F flights!). Krug isn't really to my liking, and Dom is over-rated. QF need to start serving the Perrier Jouët Belle Epoque 98. It's a sublime bubbly:) number_6 Oct 28, 09, 9:57 pm ... QF need to start serving the Perrier Jouët Belle Epoque 98. It's a sublime bubbly:)It is the opposite style to Krug (light and fresh) and AA served Belle Epoque in F for a number of years -- so there is a Oneworld precedent. I take great delight in calling it the world's most expensive apple cider (and that is high praise, as I quite like fine Calvados). The problem with champagne is that many don't drink well at altitude (Belle Epoque and Krug do). I'm just happy to have Noble One; nothing like a good sticky to set the mood. drewbles Oct 28, 09, 10:23 pm It is the opposite style to Krug (light and fresh) and AA served Belle Epoque in F for a number of years -- so there is a Oneworld precedent. The Belle Epoque is a lighter Champagne and the Krug is definitely not:) That said, I also failed to take into account the altered palate of someone at that altitude (with the cabin environment) and the amount it really does alter the taste of food and beverage. Either way, I need to get me some more Belle Epoque. I'm a big fan:) And the Noble One is also particularly pleasant. It's nice to sit back and sip after a nice F meal ;) QF009 Oct 29, 09, 12:30 am Krug isn't really to my liking, and Dom is over-rated. QF need to start serving the Perrier Jouët Belle Epoque 98. It's a sublime bubbly:) Krug and Belle Epoque have totally different styles - so if you like one you won't like the other I think. I like the heaviness of Krug but sometimes the airy, citrusy flavours of CH and PJBE are quite refreshing (oh and the PJ bottles look so pretty :D). Agree that Dom itself is overrated but the rose is sensational. :) It's such a pity that the champers selection of the QF Flounge is so ordinary (whilst other aspects of the place are top drawer, am especially impressed they've got my fave Kevin Murphy stuff in the bathrooms ^) - they need BA to do a proper champers bar for them! drewbles Oct 29, 09, 12:56 am Krug and Belle Epoque have totally different styles - so if you like one you won't like the other I think. I tend to like my champagnes lighter and my red wines heavy. I guess they offset each other:) And yes, the PJBE bottle is very pretty (as are the PJBE glasses that I managed to spill in NZ earlier in the year :() serfty Oct 29, 09, 5:05 am I reckon the Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc des Blancs 1998 served on F and the MEL/SYD F lounges back in early April was divine. When the MEL/SYD flounges first opened the had a Rosé that nurtured my palate exceedily well ; I was disappointed to see that go. Moomba Oct 29, 09, 5:15 am I reckon the Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc des Blancs 1998 served on F and the MEL/SYD F lounges back in early April was divine. Indeed. I have had this onboard in First on my last few F flights and it is my new favourite champagne in the air. They have moved on to the '99 onboard though now. I hope they still are serving that in Feb when I next get to fly F on QF. |
