There is something with the CX's noodles .....damn they always smell so strong and delicious. On my flight back from AMS to HKG the pax next to me ordered noodles. I woke up because of the smell :p. Made me very hungry!!

I've always enjoyed J's wonton noodle, sometimes I skip the entree and directly order that.
I don't see how this is news? There has always been noodles in J and F medium/long haul flights. Or is the news this statement:
The airline’s Signature Noodle Soups, now being served in First and Business Class on medium- and long-haul routes until 31 January 2010
implying that there will be no more noodles from February next year??

hahaha, another cut? Someone confirm this... hahaha, my goodness, CX is really doing that bad huh? Just read in Wall Street Journal that CX lost $8 billion HKD in 2008, and it looks like 2009 is not that much better....

I could not select before, or at best I could only have two choices. There are many different ones now.:)
They did not say they would not be offering noodles from coming February - perhaps so, or perhaps just returning to limited selections.

Shades will be down (controversial topic!) and lights will be dimmed. You cannot see it well, but you can smell it.;)

:D exactly ....and don't forget the seats are more narrow (also controversial topic) so it will take you more effort to eat it, so if you finished the bowl you will have more sense of accomplishment and it will taste better!!!

So why does one bother putting up a press release about what one wants others to think of as a "great product" only to also subtly remind the readers that the product will go away in Feb 2010 ? Have they run out of real product innovations to talk about ? :)

Does it say there will be 14 choices onboard every flight? I didn't read it like that - only that there are 14 varieties around.

By the way, I was only suggesting that CX is completely removing noodles from February as a joke.

Probably a few are available on a flight, but still better than before. 14 varieties are still much more than before - how many were there before - three?

I know... but there has to be a reason why they put "available until Jan 2010" on the press release. :)
I seriously doubt having the 14 varieties of noodles is anything new. They probably have had at least 7 or 8 varieties on the menu already, albeit they only serve 1 to 2 varieties on a given flight. (Shui Gaw, beef brisket, won ton, roast duck have been around for years.) The whole purpose of a press release is to generate noise, isn't it ?

Perhaps CX is offering as a trial different varieties soup noodles (and later decide which ones are popular so that they can narrow down the choices) as an alternative to a regular main course (currently ordered by people as a snack) in F/J as a cost saving measure and at the same time get media blitz?
Chinese soup noodles tend to be quick, easy, and inexpensive when mass produced.

I highly doubt CX would put all 14 varieties on a flight, but since they're promoting their noodles, I'm expecting there'd be more than the usual 1 (or 2) that you see on the menus now.

So that everyone on the flight can understand what the captain/purser is trying to say? whats the point of just broadcasting in one language? so that one/third (assuming 3 languages cover a whole plane) of the passengers can understand ?

Because CX is very successful in attracting western, Hong Kong, and Chinese clients. They equally contribute to the revenue of CX. Nothing wrong with catering to your customer base.

I second that as for example a HKG <--> Japan flight they do Japanese as well as Japanese are big contributor to revenue on this route as well :p
hahaha, another cut? Someone confirm this... hahaha, my goodness, CX is really doing that bad huh? Just read in Wall Street Journal that CX lost $8 billion HKD in 2008, and it looks like 2009 is not that much better....
However, they did make a small profit during the first half of 2009.

This is one of the things that make CX unique and not just my favourite airline.

Just flew LAX->HKG in J, they have roast duck noodle as light dinner and beef brisket noodle for snack, didn't see any difference than before, they already have those in previous flights. :td:

It's a shame the noodles are about the same thing as Cup Noodles served in Y. Packaged like instant noodles, flight attendants will unpackage the product, toss it into a bowl, pour powder, hot water, wait and serve.

Folks - when will you realise that CX is convinced that all we want from J is Y with a flat bed? Sleep is all that's important; wanting to actually enjoy the journey is totally passé.

Many items on flight have to be pre-packaged for safety and efficiency.

A bit OT, but still regarding new food onboard flights for CX group. KA has introduced crab dishes in F to PVG and PEK. http://www.dragonair.com/da/en_HK/aboutus/pressroomdetails?refID=25854b931d3b4210VgnVCM62000 007d21c39____
