U.K. and Ireland - LHR T5 to T1 connection - how long?

It's a bit late asking as I've already booked stuff, but ...

I land in T5 on BA from MAN scheduled to arrived at 1330. I need to be in T1 by 1430.

How tight is this going to be?

Carry on luggage only.

I am happy to do airside or landside transfer - whichever is faster or more reliable - any recommendations?

(I've done this in reverse a few times, used airside bus, took an hour including immigration, so I'm hopeful it will be no bother.)

Whew, that's pushing it.

You could try for the bus from the Flight Connections Centre, but it could be a bit of a slow slog from T5 to T1. You could also try the free HEX shuttle from T5 to T1,2,3 but the walk from the HEX station to Departures at T1 is a long'un, taking a good ten minutes at speed. If you miss a HEX train it's also 15 minutes to the next - not good for someone with a tight schedule.

I'd say try the transfer bus, but if your flight from MAN is at all delayed or you have to wait to get on the stand at T5 you may want to hop in a taxi for the journey to T1.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info.

I'm used to the walk into T1 departures from HEX (from Paddington not T5), but as you say, the risk of waiting 15mins if I just miss one plus doing full security landside-airside in T1 will add time. Can you give me a rough estimate of the (airside) bus journey time from T5 to T1? (just the time on the bus, not getting to/from the bus)

Thanks.

Why do you have to be there by 14:30 - is that the time the flight leaves or check-in closes? Can you do an on-line check-in.

I will do online check-in the day before, but I will need to show up at the UA desk at LHR to get the passport check & BP printed. This is supposed to be an hour before the flight (1525).

I would imagine I have some slack, so 1430 is not a hard target, but boarding will probably start around 1450.

In which case you have plenty of time, as it's effectivly almost a two hour transfer. The bus takes about 12-15 mins.

Cheers Larry.
