Am comtemplating a Boardrooom membership, and may want to purchase some of the $15 passes for clients/colleagues who do not necessarily travel with me.
Can anyone advise me what these passes look like? Are they numbered? Will they have my name? Will they look classy enough to present to a client who travels a bit and might appreciate a spin at the board room? etc., etc.

they're small rectangular about 1.5x2inches (actually smaller than that) and cardstock glossy paper. Lines are blank and depending on who sells them to you, you will end up with just the authorization signature/BR location it was purchased at, or possibly also requiring a specific name, or including an expiration date - HOWEVER, I have never had that problem, I have only heard about it.

Seriously? The passes are only $15???
Does AS or B of A issues freebies anymore? I haven't seen any in awhile and am thinking that we need a pair for a layover in SFO in December on our way back to SEA from AUK....
A non-member who wants to use the boardroom pays $30

So... If a BR member buys the passes the guest using the passes does not have to be in the presence of the buying BR member to use the BR?
( I know....I oughta know this basic stuff by now... but I've only been in the BR @ SEA about twice in all these years)

correct.
I only have cause to use the BR maybe 3-4 times a year, so getting a membership doesn't make sense. However, knowing that I would want to use it, I plan ahead and get them via a BR member for half the price, and just keep them till I need them. $30 for 3 drinks and some OK soup is not worth it relative to the terminal's options... however for $15, totally worth it if I have an hour to kill.

BoA gave me 2 when I 'upgraded' to the Signature Card this spring... otherwise no...

I know that a non-member cannot buy a board room guest pass to enter the secure area, but a BR member can.
If a BR member buys guest passes, can these guests pass through security?

Well... it can be 'arranged' for guests to get thru security ;)
Call the BR and talk to to them ^
As far as a pass bought by a BR member vs. nonmember, I think the difference is all in $$ not pass type (then again I've never purchased a pass)

Usually when I get a BR pass, i am told no initially, because i guess i am not very good at indicating that i am a member. I am probably using the wrong terminology or not flashing my card in the right way. It must not be an every day occurrence.

Well it may not be SOP... but there are times when it works... (BR needs to know what is going on)

This is slightly off topic but in one way does pertain to accessing the Board Room. Was going to start a new thread, but will post here instead.
I'm a BR member, my wife isn't but accesses the BR with me as my guest. Last week we went to the airport to see our daughter and son-in-law off on their flight to HNL. We were told at the check-in station that only people who had a BR membership were allowed through security when not flying, guests were not allowed. Of course, I questioned this as that had never been the case in the past. The reply was that several people had attempted this the previous day and that the agent called the BR and was told guests were not allowed through security and accordingly were not issued the boarding pass needed to access security.
I did what any reader of FlyerTalk would do and asked the agent to call the BR, which she did, and was told no problem, send them through. The agent was concerned enough about this that for her own protection she documented the call.
This whole situation was disturbing as obviously some AS employee was giving out wrong information. Does anyone know what the correct AS policy regarding this is? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
I was going to ask in the BR about this but decided it was a matter I'd pursue later.
As little as we fly anymore, a BR membership isn't really financially worthwhile-- it's the ability to access the BR when not flying that keeps us renewing.

<posting from boardroom>
You definately can bring guests into the BR if not traveling that day. I do this for folks who drop me off at the airport as a thank you, or when I was saying 'bye' to my friend when he went to FLR- we brought his dad thru to say goodbye and chill in the BR.
And at least for ANC, one does not need a boarding pass for themselves (guests yes) when going thru TSA, just show them your BR card. The TSO called for a supervisor to double check, but faster then getting a CSA to print one out, plus we save paper ^ - if you have guests though, yes you need a 'gate pass' for each person)

Are these $15 BR passes available to purchase online, or must the BR member go to the BR and buy them from the desk there?
My friend the BR member tried to get these online but it appears that the charge is $30 on the website....

The BR Concierges said that one could purchase them online (BR member) for $15...
Apparently it gives them a verification code one takes to the BR...
Haven't tried it online myself though...

If there is a way to do it online, I can't figure it out. The link to purchase single-visit passes just points to https://commerce.points.com/loungepasses (which charges a flat $30 each) even when signed in with an account that has an active BR membership. My guess is there is no way to purchase discounted passes online.

Went online and put in my CC number on the phone, clicked continue (where its verified) and it was still $30... so apparently it does not recognize my BR membership (which makes sense since there is no place to enter in my MP #)
Here's the T&C's on the next page of the pass though...
A Day Pass is valid for one day, for one person. If you are traveling through multiple cities where Board Rooms are available, you may use the Day Pass to access more than one Board Room provided subsequent visits are on the same day (if traveling overnight, the Day Pass is also valid at the first point of arrival the following day).
Alaska Airlines Day Passes are accepted only at Alaska Airlines Board Room locations. Affiliate or Partner lounges do not accept Day Passes.
Any individual over the age of 21 may purchase a Day Pass however he/she must hold a same-day ticket for airline travel that will allow clearance through the security checkpoint.
Day Passes can be purchased online for any date up to one year in advance. The Day Pass purchase fee is non-refundable. Day Passes may not be sold, bartered or redeemed for cash.
Alaska Airlines reserves the right to temporarily deny entrance to a Day Pass holder due to capacity restraints in a Board Room. The value of Day Passes purchased within the preceding 30 days, up to $100, may be applied toward a new annual Board Room membership.
Not all airports served by Alaska Airlines have a Board Room. Board Room club services, amenities and hours may vary by location and are subject to change without notice. Board Room clubs may be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Alaska Airlines disclaims responsibility for articles lost or stolen in the Board Room. Alaska Airlines reserves the right in its absolute discretion to discontinue the Day Pass program at any time or to refuse to sell a Day Pass to any specific customer and, if sold, to cancel the Day Pass, and deny any purchaser or guest access to, or use of, the Board Room. Alaska Airlines will not be liable for any loss or damage suffered by a purchaser or guest resulting from such refusal, cancellation or denial.
Alaska Airlines reserves the right to remove any purchaser or guest from a Board Room for failure to adhere to Board Room rules or for engaging in inappropriate behavior, including but not limited to, disruptive, abusive or violent conduct. Use of Board Room facilities is subject to all rules and conditions set by Alaska Airlines. Alaska Airlines reserves the right to revise these rules at any time without notice.
Day Pass purchasers must present the confirmation of the Day Pass purchase (email or alaskaair.com screen-print) and a valid government issued I.D. to access the Board Room. Failure to present this documentation may result in access being denied and forfeiture of the Day Pass. Photocopies and facsimiles of the Day Pass receipt cannot be accepted. Lost, stolen or destroyed Day Pass receipts will not be replaced. Alaska Airlines employees are not eligible to use or be a guest on a Day Pass.

FYI, My friend, the BR member, was able to buy these last night at the BR in SEA from the concierge. So my immediate problem is resolved.
But the GA at PSP had no idea of what to do when he inquired about buying them from her.
Seems to me that if the GA can sell baggage etc they ought to be able to confirm BR membership and sell these as well. Or for that matter be able to buy them online and print them out upon recognition of the BR members active status.

This doesn't surprise me at all. The BR is really a separate entity from the organization that actually flies people around. BR agents can help you with flights, but GA's/TA's cannot help you with BR membership.
