Southwest is practically giving away tickets on a ton of AS routes. Out of the 31 routes out of SEA listed on sale, 21 are AS routes. AS has been competitive with the So. Cal routes for a while, but most of the others are 1/2 to 1/3 of AS's best fares.

Of the 65 routes WN lists out of Denver in this sale, 62 are served by UA or UA codeshares.

VX fares are pretty stupid right now, too- $40 to SFO, $60 to LAX.

From a quick check on a trip PDX-OAK in December, it appears that AS has matched the fares. $50 each way.

AS also nearly matched the SEA-GEG fare at $27 one-way

Also, WN has this sale on ALL of their routes. I'm pretty sure WN flies a lot of routes AS/QX don't.

... but WN does have bag fees. WN's super-duper sale price for SEA-SJC was $60 before Alaska introduced their first bag fee. Now it's $75. That looks an awful lot like a $15 bag fee to me. I must say I'm impressed... leave it to Southwest to add bag fees without adding bag fees.

:p

Nice Catch!

Don't have to worry about them... I rarely fly routes they serve (Alaska & Hawaii :D)

VX fares are pretty stupid right now, too- $40 to SFO, $60 to LAX.I've been watching SEA-SFO for a while, and it had been around $49 for many days in Oct/Nov/Dec. Looks like it's currently $119+ for the rest of the year. Guess VX wins for now.

AS also nearly matched the SEA-GEG fare at $27 one-wayOooh, thanks for sharing that!

They are also valid in January for your early mileage run trips. ^ I tried to justify $122 a/i for a trip up to PDX but do I really need to spend my hard earned money along with time off from work? I'll pass. 543 EQMs isn't enough to justify it early in the year and I never qualify off of segments.

These crazy fares are sprinkled throughout WN's system - not specifically targeted at AS.

SEA-DEN is the one that amazes me... $50 each way! I thought I got a good deal when I paid $60 for my trip earlier this month. Is that route really sustainable for four airlines (Southwest, Alaska, United, and Frontier)? It seems like Alaska would be the one at a disadvatage because there are no onward connections from there on Alaska.

Yeah but Alaska has more onward connections from SEA. ;)
