Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan - ORD DL SkyClub closing in L concourse

Alright, everyone, this is my first post, although I have been lurking here for years. Yes, I know that sounds kind of creepy.

Anyway... I was in the ORD Delta SkyClub in the L concourse last week and the concierge informed me that it was closing mid-November with DL's move to NW's concourse. I know this was probably expected for some time.

Well, I had a lot of time at ORD, so I decided to check out the other DL SkyClub (the former NW WC shared CO PC) adn they turned me away! She explained to me that the arrangement at the other SC is a local one and they were told not to let BR members in to the Terminal 2 SC.

When I got to SEA, I went to the BR and mentioned my experience in passing to the BR concierge. She said she's not sure when they'll have a different agreement for ORD, but they were working on it. With increased traffic (or at least destinations, PDX) I certainly do hope we get a club at ORD that is not SO far away from the gate. And lord help us if they make us use another AA Admirals Club (was not a fan for the brief stint in DEN).

Any possibility AS could lease that room? :D Probably not I bet it costs a good fortune to lease but would be nice. It might actually entice me to buy a membership. Seems to be the only place I am in for several hours during a time when a club is open

I wish! It does seem unlikely, though. Even though that club is really only a long hallway, it's a quaint space that has grown on me.

If they leased it and just put in a few chairs and tables, they could call in the Gold Closet and let us MVPGs in there.....

....just sayin'...

Welcome to the posting side of Flyertalk and the Alaska Airlines Forum SEA-ORDFF,

I know that DL was going to move in with DL sometime soon, wasn't sure when... it was a nice club, with a decent bar ;) and was soo convenient (directly across from L2B)...

Not sure what will happen... will AS stay there or will they move (There are a lot of AA codeshares in ORD)...

As for being turned away from using the Skyclub as a Boardroom Member... that is wrong!

Write a nice letter to both AS BR folks and DL Skyclub CCing each, as we are now allowed access! [This changed this spring]

I sympathize with the ORD folks, but AS has to solve the longstanding EWR lounge mess first

How many cities does AS fly to EWR from & at what frequency? um yeah- ORD should be higher up :p

Besides- I have an ANC-ORD in Feb!

Given that you have to re-clear security to access the AS gate, the EWR club is a joke. Of course there is that UA RCC right there...

Since there's no BR and now no SC in DEN, I'd not be pooh-poohing the DEN AC (conveniently located on Concourse C) so much now...

Are you implying that AS employees can't do two things at once?;)

What about the CO PC? And didn't AS just shift to some different gates (possibly A gates - haven't been to DEN in a while :o)

Alaska flights operate out of A51 in Denver. Here's a map (http://www.flydenver.com/maps/inside/concourseA.asp).

Delta's move to the old Presidents Club/World Club at ORD makes good sense. For Delta. Those who purchase Alaska Boardroom memberships should recognize that compared to big airlines like AA/CO/DL/UA, Alaska is a small airline that operates only six lounges. It should be further and clearly understood that reciprocal lounge benefits are always subject to change, be it a lounge closing or an alliance relationship ending/changing. As a charter Lifetime member of the Presidents Club, I've enjoyed my access to Alaska's Boardrooms over the past few years. This will all end by December, I believe.

For the present and immediate future, I think a Boardroom membership is a great deal if you fly predominantly with AS/DL to their mainline cities. On the other hand, if your travels regularly take you to DEN/ORD/EWR/DFW/PHX/LAS, you might want to consider a Priority Pass membership which is still good in AS, CO and most UA/US lounges. The only drawback is that you won't have free guest privileges, though guests can accompany you for a $24.00 fee per guest per visit.

From the AS website:
Please Note: Our partnership with Continental Airline is ending. The last day to access the Continental Presidents Club rooms listed below is October 24, 2009. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Effective October 25, 2009: Board Room members will have access to Continental rooms in Denver, Las Vegas, and Newark only.

Thanks for the updates. The last time I flew AS out of DEN, they were still in the C gates. AS folks are fortunate at DEN. DL/NW not so much. I'll be using AA for the forseeable future at DEN due to no lounge access otherwise.

Rick said at the MVPG Lunch (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alaska-airlines-mileage-plan/1006097-anc-fall-2009-mvpg-breakfast-lunch-october-15-a.html) that you'd still have access as a CO PC member to PDX and ANC (very important for you ;))

I think this is understood, but at the same time Alaska markets the BR as a product that also gives you access to 51 other partner lounges.

I can also understand that for some cities that do not have that much AS traffic, an inconvenient or no lounge is somewhat understandable. Chicago has the most traffic of any of Alaska's long hauls eastward, it's a popular business route and for BR members they should at least make some sort of effort to secure an acceptable lounge agreement.

Having never been there myself, can anyone describe the size of the DL Crown Room? Judging by it's location it can't be much bigger than the Admirals Club in the G concourse.

I think AS pax would have been better served by having access to the AC in ORD. Having access to the showers in the H/K concourse is reason enough.

Any possibility AS could lease that room?

I'd say the chances are zero. I would even go so far as to say that AA probably already has the lease agreement drawn up to convert it into an Admirals Club. That concourse will get more intl action soon, since AA is said to be operating its 75L flights from there.

Not sure what will happen... will AS stay there or will they move (There are a lot of AA codeshares in ORD)..

It would be insane for AS to move in with DL's meager ORD presence and forsake the AA/OW codeshares.

DL Crownroom is a little bigger then the PDX BR... Its kinda a long hallway... but decent...

AAdmirals Club would be nice for the showers, but then our libations are $$$

How long of a haul is it to the NW gates from L2B? Didn't make the walk last August :(

Agreed... although some DL codeshares ex ORD would be nice... or a baggage agreement with AA and their elites...

It's far enough to make it unrealistic. I walk fast, but it takes me at least 20 minutes to get from E4 to L2B.

The E terminal SkyClub is nice and super convenient if you happen to be traveling NW or DL out of ORD, just not AS...

Well you can be drunk or clean, but not both. :D

or a baggage agreement with AA

Not sure what you mean. The fact that they interline/codeshare means baggage is handled between the two. Im sure there will be new AA-AS lounge agreements drawn up shortly. I cant imagine that AS will allow their pax to suffer in ORD.

As I'm purely an AA man, I've never made that walk. Do you have to exit security or is it airside to airside?

It's airside to airside. All of ORD is connected airside except the M (international) terminal, aka T5.

I find that 10 minutes will take one from E4 to L2B, but I tend to move briskly. If I was flying AS, I'd make the trek. Booze is free in the Skyclub. :)

I hope so. It's a long, sucky walk from the Flagship Lounge (K19) to L8. :(

Was referring to an agreement AS is working on with DL for waving of fees for elites (noting out yet... but hopefully it will work) so beyond the interline agreement...

:D, except if they eliminate guests there... :(
