My first bad experience in Vegas and this happened at the Golden Nugget this past weekend. Check in on Friday, and was given a suite in the Spa Tower. Beautiful 2 story room. Thumbs up.

Put bag in room and went out to gamble. Got back to room early Saturday morning around 3:30 am. Slept and up around 11:30am and downstairs in the casino by around noon. Although I have a beautiful room, I'm the type that stays out all day and just use the room to sleep.

Once again gambled till around 3:30 am early Sunday. Go to the room, put the key in, but the key did not worked. Damn. Thinking that the key got de-magnetized, so trek downstairs to the front desk to try and get a new key.

At the front desk, they could not find me as registered guest!!!! So I showed them the "guest card" showing the dates of my arrival and checkout which was supposed to be Monday. After checking somemore, the front desk robot told me that they checked me out on Saturday just after I have gotten up and left the room!!!!

I ask why, of course the front desk robot could not answer me.

Then I ask what happened to my stuff that I left in the room. After numerous phone calls, I was told that the cleaning staff removed my toiletry bag and kept it in housekeeping somewhere. However, my bag that was in the closet with a couple of t-short on hangers were nowhere to be found.

Remember, this is around 4:00 in the morning. I'm tired. My cloths stinks and you don't want to be near my feet. So I asked the front desk robot if it is golden nugget's policy to check people out of their room before they are suppose to!!! Of course no answer was given.

Granted, the front desk robot offered me another room, but given their treatment so far, I declined. I could get a room anywhere on the strip.

By this time, someone from housekeeping arrived with a blue plastic bag with my toiletry bag inside, but my other bag with clothing and everything else is nowhere to be found.

Seeing that there were no answers to be gotten from the front desk robot and I really did not want to wake up the host that make the reservation for me, I just gave them my cell number and ask to them call me when they found my bag.

So I left with my toiletry bag and went to another casino on the strip.

Expecting a call early in the morning when someone with some sort of authority that could sort out the situtation but it was not to be. No one called.

So, I had to drag myself back downtown as I have some valuable items in the bag that I left in the room. Eventhough I showered, I had to put my old clothing back on. So I still stink.

I went to the host office told the host on duty my story and after more phone calls, I was told that someone else with a name that was close to mine asked to check out on Saturday and they make the mistake and check me out instead. Right!!!!!!! With my stuff still the room!!!!

At this point, I really didn't care for their explanation, I just wanted my bag. After a few calls, I was told my bag was at Lost and Found and the host sort of hinted for me to go there to get my bag. Yeah right!!!! How many strikes is this?

Seeing the expression on my face, he quickly call someone to bring it down. After retriving my bag, I check the bag and thank God everything was there. They actually did folded my t-shirts bery nicely before putting back in the bag. Thumbs up. Thumbs down for making me come back down to get it. So I left with my bag.

Today, Monday, I have left a message with the host that make my reservation to call me but alas no call yet. Maybe tomorrow (they are very busy you know ...) or the day after or probably never.

Well, golden nugget will never see 1 gambling dollar from me again.

Thanks for listening. I had to vent somewhere.

Very nice post for a first-timer. Stick around. Continue to contribute to the Vegas forum. We'll be your new friends. We like Vegas stories, bad or good. Really sucks what you experienced.

Man that sucks. Iisn't there a policy where if housekeeping finds guest property in rooms that supposedly have been checked out they are suppose to contact security etc.?

At least have the decency to not call the front desk person a robot...remember they aren't the ones that checked you out but are instead the first person you could find to talk to. They probably make $9/hour and are working the overnight shift. Don't take it out on them...

I suspect that the OP uses the term "robot" to express his/her frustration at the lack of empathy shown by the clerk. Even if the clerk is not empowered to drop all other duties to solve the guest's problem, the clerk can still offer to escalate to higher authority, while simultaneously trying to calm the guest by expressing basic human concern and sincerity.

Spot on. Perhaps an element of this was the case here?

Wow,
Although I've heard worse nightmare stories, this was unacceptable.
I would try to research the name of the front desk manager. I know it wasn't the fault of the front desk clerk, but one of them did it, and it's on record who because they need a password to get into the system and they need to type in a code to make approvals of check ins and outs.
They get more than $9 an hour, but they get more than their fair share of complaints. We, at the hotels, jokingly call front desk "the complaint department".
Anyway, keep complaining and calling until you get an answer.
I personally have worked for 2 different hotel companies, MGM-Mirage and one owned by Marriott. Both hotels usually comp the person a night or two in a hotel, and sometimes even an upgraded room.
You were super inconvenienced and please emphasize this in your complaint, as well as letting them know you plan to never come there again until they resolve your issue etc etc. You can also even write the mayor

He is personal friends with lots of hotel owners and executives I know this for a fact. He is always looking for ways to make Las Vegas better. Las Vegas is hurting, and they cannot afford to have this happen to travelers. Tourism is down by a significant amount each year for about 4 years now. If he can help bring those numbers up this is the stuff he needs to know about. He's a nice dude.

HEY another thing not related to your particular story but a thing that makes people's worst nightmare come true is: DON'T USE YOUR ATM CARD THAT IS ALSO A VISA TO PUT THE CHARGE ON FOR YOUR ROOM. They put a 2 week HOLD on it and you will not be able to withdraw any cash that you have. So use a credit card that you don't use very much and don't plan to use for anything else other than the hotel room charge.

+1. The last thing Vegas needs is yet another ring of thefts out of the hotels.

OP specifically said nothing was stolen. I'd call Oscar just for a ride to the airport in his Benz-o.

That's not entirely accurate and a slightly alarmist way of looking at it. Hotels place a hold on your funds to cover incidentals over your stay. The amount varies per night and it's only if you're close to your overdraft limit that you could find yourself in this situation. The same can apply to credit cards though.

Typically the hotel should authorise 20-30% of the rate but you should always check this in advance if you have a concern about cashflow during the holiday.
