I am a UK resident and have 1094pts left to do to make PLT.
I am Marriott PLT, which is where the vast majority of my travel goes but there are some places Marriott doesn't serve and then I stay at HI. With the big extra 20,000 pts bonuses that I managed to snag twice ;) and getting the prioritypoints card, I've ended up just 1094 points short of PLT, but with no business stays at HI etc for the rest of the year.. So if I'm to make PLT its got to be on my own money.
I stay no more than 10 nights per year in HI or linked properties, so the question is... is it worth it on my own dollar, with so few stays each year, and unless they repeat the mad bonuses next year, with no chance of requalifying, even for gold?
All my stays at HI are in the UK

Just register for the Partner promo, buy 1000 points, then do a Webdecoder and you have your 1100 points plus in Dec another 1000 points for the bonus.

Depends what other things you have registered for in the past.
If you can use the 200 points.com sign up bonus, the webdecoder bonuses (Germany, US, UK, China, Aus ...) and do the 500 point survey that would get you to the points required without needing to buy any points.

Is it worth it ? Yes, just for the 50% plat bonus. You stay 10 nts/yr, so assuming $150/stay, that's over 5k points just next year for being plat rather than gold. Plus the 5k bonus points you get for plat (see the master promo thread)
In general, if registering for everything on the master promo thread, you should make Plat in 5-8 HI stays, so you should renew with ease...

Yes, it is worth it.

I'd vote "yes". Someone I know had an award stay at a hotel that had parking for $10 for everyone else, yet free for Plats. One night of parking would have paid for that 1000 points (you get the point).

Wow, thanks to all you priorityclub experts.
I know the Marriott scheme very well being a longstanding member there, but I am amazed at how easy it seems to be to make plat status at PC, I in fact only stayed 5 nights this entire year, but with your help it looks like I'll make PLT! With Marriott based strictly on nights stayed, 75 for PLT, this is far easier.
Anyroad, as an update, I've done the quiz and banked 500pts, signed up to points.com and received 200pts and done a decoder for 100pts. So now (assuming they all post) I am only 294 points short!
I can't see any free way to get those last points though, could I prevail upon you for any freebie ideas to get the last 294 points?

You should be able to do more than just one WebDecoder to get the extra points you need, just use the other countries and codes, full details in that thread.

Sign up for the 2 'Platinum Bonus' codes in post 1 of the Promo thread. You will receive a 5000 point bonus about a month after you hit Plat.

I would buy 1000 points. It gets you there immediately and gives you a margin if something else fails to post. You mention that you have the PC credit card, you could also use that to get the last batch of points.
I fell short of Plat in 2008 and have been kicking myself all year because of it. Also, once one aquires Plat it is much easier to maintain as all the bonus points count toward requalification.

what about referal or credit card bonus?

Buying them is the easiest way of ensuring they credit in time. Well worth it in my book. You never know how your travel plans will change over the coming year and to have Plat in your pocket rather than Gold could be most beneficial.

Tons of thanks to you all!!!
Went to the codes thread and signed up for the Email Optin bagging another 250 points and then tried the german decoder, alas red dot of death, but the chinese decoder worked a treat and acheived my final 100 points, so with all your help got my points free of charge!
For any others reading this thread and looking to get some freebie points.
I did:-
Uk decoder........................... 100pts
China decoder....................... 100pts
Email Optin........................... 250pts
Quiz.................................... 500pts
Points.com signup.................. 200pts
Total free points in 24 hours... 1150pts :D
AND PLT acheived, assuming it all posts, and if not, well then a quick purchase of 1000 points should do it.
And to think without you folks I was seriously considering a needless stay in HIX to get there!!

Hmmm, how come I received Error 191 when tried for the rest of the decoders?

Don't know the answer to that I am afraid. It worked for me and other people as the thread comments testify.

I tried the Canadian one yesterday and the site kept rejecting my PC number. Some very strange IT going on there somewhere!
