As a recent Hyatt Diamond I have noticed a thank you letter, small box of chocolates, fruit plate, and a bottle of wine at each of my stays.

Is the bottle of wine free? [it is next to the fruit, letter, chocolates and property in question is Seoul ICN Hyatt]

Yes, I have got free wine bottles couples of time for free on different hyatt properties. I'll suggest checking with room service staff once to be 100% sure.

Yes, the bottle of wine is free, enjoy it! Keep in mind it only cost about $10.00 in a store, and even less to the hotel since they buy it in bulk. I suspect the vast majority of Diamonds leave the wine in the room unopened, not worth carrying back home.

Very nice! ^^ I remember when they used to give just a small box of chocolates. Now if we can only work on the GH Erawan in Bangkok to give a welcome amenity...... :(

Why not file a complaint to Guest Relation? They violate the T&C for not providing one. And that's the best way to change that.

Yes, I always get a bottle of wine. Most recently GH-Seoul. And I actually drank it!! Not great, but not bad either...

If it's on the table with the fruit and water and any other such items and the welcome card from the manager, then it is indeed a free amenity/gift for a Diamond elite. (There will generally also be one or two wine glasses and an opener.) If it's sitting on top of the mini-bar...well, we're not that dumb, are we?!

Not more than once! :)

I will do that the next time I stay there. They've gotten away with it for years and have worn down even flyertalk veterans. :(

don't you choose whether to get the wine or the points? what do people here usually choose at hyatts? what about at hyatt place where they only offer 500 points or the food and beverage option?

When I was at HR ICN last time, I had to remind them of a free bottle of wine. A free full bottle of wine is offered at HR Birmigham, UK too. You may have to ask for one once in a while though. You will also get a free bottle at PH Saigon.

For those who are diamonds:

Domestically, you get a choice of points or amenity.

Internationally, you get no choice. It is an amenity, selected by the hotel.

Thanks for this. Is this an actual rule as per the T+C's? I ask because on a recent stay at Hyatt Kuantan I received the voucher at check-in with my choice of amenity or points. On my last stay at same hotel, I received no voucher, no 1K bonus points, and my amenity was a bowl of ant-covered fruit. The chocolates seems limited to Suite stays which we did receive in the past - suppose the free wine in Malaysia is likely a non -starter.

Those are the rules but properties are allowed to go beyond the rules - some International properties and even some domestic Parks now have the point option for the amenity even though they are not required to do that.

Why would you think this? It's not like Malaysia is Saudi Arabia, well not most states anyway.

Non-Muslims can drink in Malaysia. Its only illegal to drink if you are of the Islam faith was what I was told while I was there.

for those who don't like wine (im just a kid and just cant stand the taste-maybe i will be able to drink it in 10 years, but as of now I won't drink it except in situations where it would simply be rude not to), if the wine is complimentary would it be ok to like give it to the housekeeping staff (as a "gift") or something like that?

I'm sure the housekeepers just take it when they make your room anyways, can't imagine the hotels would give it to the next guest.

You were advised correctly.

Usually I would ask them to take back the wine and give me something else, like a few bottles of water and usually they don't have a problem with doing that...

We do the same. Hotels will generally substitute a couple bottles of something non alcoholic for a bottle of wine, such as water, juices, and/or soft drinks. We always ask for a substitution for the wine. I'm a bit puzzled why the high end properties where I've stayed before such as PH Vendome don't keep a file on customer preference. But that's a topic for a different thread.

Would they be open to substituting the wine for a non-drink item, like more chocolate?

Good strategy!!! I'll have to remember this for the future. I'm not a big wine fan, I'm a beer guy. ^ One time at HR Maui there was a welcome amenity bottle of wine in my room and I called room service and asked if I substitute it for a couple of those nice Kona Brewing Company beers (the type they have at the RC). They not only brought a couple, they brought 6 of them, on ice!!! ^^^^

I never thought to try that with a bottle of wine in exchange for waters or juices though, but will definitely give it a try in the future!! ^
