Could be I'm too thick to work this out from the stickies andthe ever-helpful BD-website, but:

flying MUC SFO on LH-metal under a UA flight-number

how many status miles drop into my (silver) Diamond Club account ??

Operating carrier does determine the miles.

So it will be:

5,820 (or something like this) divided by 2 (since it's only 50% miles on LH in W) plus exec bonus of 5,820 * 0,25.

I WAS being thick ! The answer is in the stickies, but thank you so much for the rapid confirmation.

(But a bit annoying as I think W is 100% on UA)

OP asked about status miles : The BD*S loyalty bonus of 25% base miles is destinations miles, not status miles.

cheers,

I think LH/UA have common booking codes. If it was not W then it will map to a similar 50% earning class for sure.

But W-class earns 100% miles with Diamond Club. It must then be the case of the operating carrier determining the miles you get, even if W maps to W on LH. Has anybody got any experience of this? Am I right in thinking that in future it would be better to book the TATL on United metal, rather than on a LH codeshare? That way you would get 100% miles.

Never done it, that's why I'm a bit tentative. Of course, the temptation of booking the LH codeshare is my belief that you get better service on LH in Y. However, I have never yet flown UA in Y across the Atlantic, so I have no experience!

If you're flying on LH metal, it'll be the LH rates you'll earn. Both UA and US, and apparently CO too (although this is yet to be confirmed by Diamond Club), earn at least 100% miles in economy, but as you've found, various other carriers, including LH, don't. :(

If you rate the miles higher than the product, yes, absolutely right.

And I can confirm that a UA coded W on LH metal posted at 50% about 2 years ago, whether it mapped as W, I cannot say - as the BD systems don't let you see the posting class.

Can confirm this as well!
