I have the option of a 5 hour layover in KUL.
Is this enough time to head to Central?
The airport express is ~45 mins. Last time Immigration took up to an hour.
Any advice?
David.

Train trip is 28 min, plus up to 15-20 min waiting time. KL immigration is usually quite efficient but incoming can get jammed if a couple of big planes land at the same time; outgoing is rarely more than a 10-min wait. If you can get from plane to train in 30 min and want to be back at the airport an hour before departure, that gives you max 2 hours in the city.

One problem is that KL Sentral is, despite the name, actually not central at all and it's another 15-20 min on the packed-as-sardines LRT line to the Petronas Towers. So it's going to be a pretty darned rushed trip...

A more offbeat option would be to charter a taxi to tour Putrajaya, Malaysia's capital in the making halfway between KL and the airport. It's an insane place and quite unrepresentative of the rest of the country, but it certainly is something else... Putrajaya is reachable by train in ~20 min, but the KLIA Transit only runs half-hourly.

What a great idea, I have seen this numerous times on the RHS as you head towards Sentral, if you only have 5 hours it would fill in time and no doubt be entertaining, unless it's like Canberra and closes down on a weekend and that is the time you would be there:mad:
I have always experienced fast service through the airport, the trains are marvellous, regards bkkrop

It doesn't matter when you go to Putrajaya, it's always comatose. :D But the Putra Mosque, Alamanda Mall, etc are pretty much always open, and half or more of the fun is just driving around and gawking at the sheer immensity of the pompous palaces they've put up. Touring the inside of the Perdana Putra (http://www.pmo.gov.my/?menu=page&page=1656) is still on my to-do list though...
