I've upped my destination miles to 120k by buying the max of 24k for this year, but that's still not enough to do a miles & cash for two business class tickets from LHR to NAN. I've registered a DC account for my fiancée to get her the 5k sign-up miles (which were posted immediately!). If I buy some miles for her account too to take her up to 29k, I'm in spitting distance of having the 75k miles each that are required.

So... a couple of questions:

Can I ask the ICC to pool the two sets of miles together in order to get tickets that are for the both of us? i.e. use 75k of my miles for me and 46k of my miles and her 29k miles for her.
Checking staralliance.com for routes from LHR-NAN, one appealing route it suggests is LHR-SIN with SQ, then SIN-AKL-NAN with NZ. Can I do that as one redemption, or does a redemption all have to be on the same carrier?

Many thanks!

You can't mix miles but you'll do best to buy 4 one-ways at 37500 miles + cash, eg 112500 from you and 37500 from your fiancée

And yes of course you can mix carriers, and don't forget you are allowed a stopover on each one-way (outside Europe) eg in Australia.

You can also quickly boost your miles balance by each signing up for a BMI credit card:

http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/diamond-club/credit-card/credit-card.aspx

20,000 for the standard card or 24,000 for the BMI plus card (and 3,000 status miles per annum) after £250 spend, though it can take a while for the miles to come through.

"Quickly" may be quite random here, after one has spent all the required money it may take some time for miles to post (judging by different "reports" on the forum).

MBNA usually post the miles within 2 weeks of your statement date. (i.e. The statement when you reach £250 of spend)

What can slow things down is when MBNA decide to set up a new account for the miles to post to. If that happens, then you need to ask Diamond Club to combine the accounts and move the miles to the correct account.

All in all, you'd do well to get the bonus miles in less than 6 weeks from applying for the card.

Thanks for the answers. I've started to look at availability on the ANA tool, and on all legs there's only availability in economy. While it's a shame, I'm not THAT worked up about not having business class.

For the AKL-NAN leg, there's only availability in business class. Can I get round this, and if so, how? Can you combine classes?

I can't believe you can only see Economy flights to Fiji. Remember that ANA CANNOT cope with more than 1 connection and you need to look up flights individually. Also remember that Swiss is not available on ANA.

Use staralliance.com to see the possible routings. Then use ANA to look at the component flights individually. I cannot believe that for any particular day you cannot find a J seat to Los Angeles OR Bangkok OR Hong Kong OR Singapore OR Tokyo, all of which appear to be valid routings to Auckland.

You can use as many carriers as you like. London to Frankfurt to Singapore to Auckland to Fiji is OK, for instance, but you would need to look at each leg separately on ANA. The unofficial rule is that you pay the class of the longest leg, which in this case is FRA-SIN. Whether you do the other legs in a higher or lower class does not affect the miles needed.

Absolutely do NOT do this trip in Economy! It is about as far as it is possible to fly, so its therefore impossible to think of a better use of your miles!

If you are stuck, post the rough dates you want to go and we can probably rustle up something - at worst, you may need to stopover for a day or so en route.

Thanks again. We're both applying for the credit card tonight so hopefully within the next month or so we'll have the additional miles to play with. I'll then look at actually booking things so may come back for help then, so thanks for the offer, Raffles.
