I am planning a trip to Argentina and Chile for Jan/Feb 2011. The plan is to use an Amex 2-4-1 LHR to EZE and buy a “Visit South America” to get around. Terms and conditions for the pass state:

This fare must be booked in conjunction with return travel to South America on oneworld member airlines.

Does anyone know for sure if a BA award flight would qualify for this, or would it have to be a revenue booking?

Thanks for any help,
Pirate

To my knowledge, the South American flights as well as the OW flight that gets you there have to be *bought* (revenue, i.e., with money) all on the same itinerary, however others might have different information.

No, the Visit SA pass is valid even if the intercontinental flight is a mileage redemption ("award") ticket. It must be on OW metal however.

Just wondering how one earns miles with this pass.

Just wondering how one earns miles with this pass.Books into K; mileage accrual depends on your FFP.

Since it doesn't look like there's direct LHR-EZE flights (though maybe I missed them), and presumably you're going to connect from the U.S., if you can book your ticket into EZE on LAN, you'll qualify for the cheaper LAN South America Pass rates. Also, if you end up booking only a one-way award into South America, LAN will still issue a LAN South America Pass, whereas AA claimed (when I tried this) that they would only issue the OW Visit South America Pass if my entry into and my exit out of South America were on the same ticket. In the end, I didn't fight them on that, since it was cheaper to just get the pass through LAN. I believe it books into H class, which seems to have pretty good availability.
