Emirates Airlines Skywards - emirates chauffeur drive services - Car seat charges?

Hi guys,

very new to the forum. tried searching for this before posting.

I'm flying with EK DXB-MAN in Nov. upgraded from Y to J using the skywards miles for myself and < 2 year old daughter. upgraded over the phone and when the CS rep was trying to organize the chauffeur drive service in Manchester, stated there will be a charge of between £10-£20, for getting the child car seat, at the airport, which I need to pay the driver separately.

Having done similar trips 4 times in the past 2 years, I was surprised to find out abt the child seat charges. the CS rep had no clue, so didn't bother wasting my time. Now, I'm not much bothered abt the chauffeur services, as my hotel is only a £10 taxi ride from the MAN airport, so in case they are actually going to charge me anything above £10 for the child seat alone, I will just not use them.

Now my questions are

1) Has anyone had any similar exp recently, with the chauffeur services
2) Any negative implication on refusing to use the service at the airport after making the booking
3) what is the general practice of tipping the drivers, if they are generally nice, friendly and helpful?

First post, please be gentle.thanks in advance

Hi,

First of all welcome to FT.

Now to your query.

1) The CHILD SEAT is actually a service over & above the Limo service contract which EK has with the Car Fleet Company that is actually providing the service to the premium paxs. So in your case EK is incurring extra charges over & above the one they have contracted for with their supplier. That is the reason why they ask you to directly pay these charges to their supplier. These charges have nothing to do with EK and are the actual charges that the Car Fleet Company will charge. Hope you get the point.

2) Yes you can choose to not to use the Limo service even after you have confirmed the same. There are no extra charges or penalities etc.

3) Tipping is not at all mandatory but not forbidden as well. I usually tip Usd 10 - Usd 20 in US, Asia & Middle East & EUR 15 - 20 in Europe.

Safe Flying

EGT

Thanks EGT

it's just that I never came across this in the last 2 years made me think,is it actually true. so I guess it is.

I guess it's a privilege which EK is giving it's elite passengers and not our rights.

thanks anyway

I am really surprised with this, Tristar are really good so i am not convinced they are doing this themselves. I have used the service many many times and have always found them to be top notch. Never had to pay for a child seat for my grandaughter in the 4 trips she has taked with EK.

Thanks Gorilaz,

when i mentioned

"Having done similar trips 4 times in the past 2 years, I was surprised to find out abt the child seat charges"

all these 4 trips were on the DXB-MAN sector in the past 2 years(all with EK) and never had any problems with getting the car seat arranged. So was a bit surprised when this was mentioned to me.My first reaction was that- they may have started this coz of recession or may be cost cutting, but wanted to make sure if anyone else had encountered this either in MAN or anywhere else where EK operates.

I'm also aware of the fact that not many people fly in J class with infants or kids very often, so I guess, it's just trying my luck at the airport
