I've read a lot of post on here, but I'm not clear on my current situation.

I stay in hotels for business travel and so far this year I've stayed in HI, HIX or CW for 220 days, so obviously I'm a platinum member. By the time the year closed I'll probably have close to 260 days. I have a lot of points that I would like to use on vacations.

When going on vacation I'd like to stay at an IC resort, but only having platinum level it sounds like I shouldn't be expecting upgrades or anything like that.

I know that I can use 24k points to acquire Amabassador status, but what I'm really wondering is what I can do to get Royal Ambassador. Seeing as that I've stayed so many nights this year, would it be enough for me to stay one night each at 3 different IC hotels? Maybe do a night at the IC Boston, a night at IC Montreal and a night at the IC Baltimore. Could I use points for these nights in qualifying for RA?

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

If you've stayed that much, it might even be worth just asking them to outright give you RA, but buying Ambassador and having *paid, qualifying* stays at three ICs will definitely do it (award stays might work, but no guarantees).

Welcomt to FT.

Will you still stay a lot for business next year?
If not I will suggest you try to stay 3 different ICs to get RA this year.
Based on your 260+ days I would suggest you may try to request RA first.

Sorry, how can one spend 24k points (rather than 150USD) to get A?
EDIT: Found it, via customer support.

In order to get RA, does one have to stay at 3 IC's payable, or can you use points? Thank you.

You can not use points to buy RA in the same way you can to purchase Ambassador. Staying at 3 different ICs on paid bookings seems to be the general consensus of opinion for being granted RA along with "x" number of nights at ICHG properties, where "x" is an unpublished (but subject to much speculation) number. See Section 3 in the "PLEASE READ FIRST: Master Thread InterContinental Hotels Forum thread" written by Raffles for more information.

Thanks for the responses. I most likely won't be staying in hotels much next year.

So my plan is as folllos, based on responses:

1. Use points and purchase Ambassador
2. Stay ONE night each at three different IC hotels, not using points
3. Ask for Royal Ambassador
4. Get great upgrades on vacation in Thailand, Columbia and eastern Europe!

Remember, once you get your Ambassador package you will receive a Free weekend night cert that you can use for one of your upcomming stays. So you can spend a nice long weekend in one of the properties you've mentioned.
RA then gives you the 2 room categories upgrade and also the possibility for lounge access.
Just stayed at the IC Buckhead and was surprised on what they had to offer in the lounge. Great place to stay at

I'd suggest:

1. Use points and purchase Ambassador
2. Wait for Ambassador kit to arrive (if you aren't in a hurry for RA status)
3. Stay ONE night each at three different IC hotels, not using points (or 3 different IC's, but for one of them you can stay 2 nights, on a weekend, using the BOGOF voucher from the Ambassador kit for a free 2nd weekend night)
4. Ask for Royal Ambassador (if it doesn't happen automatically within the 1st week of the next month)
5. Get great upgrades on vacation in Thailand, Columbia and eastern Europe!

Why wait until the Ambassador kit arrives? to get some extra luggage tags, an extra 5k points, and an extra weekend night BOGOF voucher :)

If you go to RA before they send out the Ambassador kit, you'll just get the one (RA) kit. If you get the Ambassador kit first, then you'll have this, and then later the RA kit too.

Good luck,

Do the three IC stays have to follow Ambassador status? I have stays at two different IC's this year as PCR Plat, not Ambassador. If I buy (whether $ or points) Ambassador now and have at least one more IC stay before year end will I get RA?

How many total qualifying nights do you have with PCR this year? IC stays while you aren't Ambassador will still help towards RA initial qualification, but the three ICs rule only comes into play if you have sufficient overall nights.

If you are looking to do the Boston IC they have a $199/nt rate this Friday and Saturday. You have to ask for the Halloween Package or the Shipwreck Package. They advertised it on Twitter this afternoon as the shipwreck package and I booked Friday night for my wife and I. They were unable to find what they had advertised as "shipwreck package" but found it under "Halloween package". I guess the marketing department doesn't talk to the reservation team. That's the cheapest rate I have seen here all year.
