Virgin flying club - Jumping from BAEC

I no longer value my BAEC membership, I do about 2 business or premium economy returns to OZ per year (50/50) plus business trips almost anywhere but at the moment focused on Singapore/Korea/Japan. It looks to me that the VS flying Club is where I should settle. I have some questions:
I am BA silver, is there any chance of status match to silver with Virgin? With my current plans I could easily get from there to VS Gold.
How well do Flying Club status privileges translate across *A? particularly with Lufthansa and British Midland.
I am sorry if these questions have been answered elsewhere, any tips would be appreciated.

Hi ginger50,
I do not think VS would match to Silver ( they sometimes offer a fast track to gold but you would need to have some UC flights booked with VS)
Flying Club is not associated with * alliance ( VS do partner with individual * alliance airlines)
Lufthansa- no miles/ tier points or benefits with your flying club card
British midland- you get tier points and miles on eligible fares. You can redeem miles ( not sure on lounge access -you used to get BD LHR lounge access with VS gold)

Hi ginger50 - that's an interesting set of questions so let me try to add to what tbs has already said.
As mentioned, VS is not in the *A and in comparison to BAEC if you are EX Ag or Au you get more partner benefits / recognition / lounge access etc. than you would with VS.
If you can't get to BAEX Au or Premier, then aside from the lack of alliance benefits VS FC Gold is comparable to BAEC Ag / Oneworld Emerald. Note, VC FC silver is really a glorified BA EX Blue.
One thought occurs to me, with the destinations you mention, why not become a SQ KrisFlyer? If you did that, then miles / points earning on LH and BD becomes possible and also on any flights you might take with VS.

Thank you both, that was very helpful. I have looked at the Kris Flyer pages and this looks like a good option.... particularly because if I take a PE flight on VS then miles count towards Kris status ^
Being a tall person I also like the preferred seat option they offer ^
If I switch all my flights to *A I should get to Kris AU within a year, excellent! ^^^

BMI usually status match at the drop of a hat. If flying *Alliance, then BMI is the better FF airline programme to use. There is also a UK Amex card that will accumulate points pretty fast.
