I know how much everyone loves their Bose and other high dollar NC headphones. Unfortunately I have a problem spending that much so am look to my other travelers who have used or are using other solutions preferably in the $100 range.

Thoughts?

When I want to travel light, I leave the Bose headphones at home. I take a set of Sony noise canceling earbuds that were about $60. I'd say they're 85% as good as the Bose.

I really like my Sennheiser 250's (http://www.ecost.com/Detail/Headphones/Sennheiser/PXC250+NOISE+HPH/1854305.aspx?navid=155441514). ^

If you have a sony factory outlet near you, sometimes you can get some incredible deals on some of their NC headphones. Years ago they had some water damaged box ones (they were inside plastic bags so the stuff was fine) were in the $18 range or something.

Not as good as Bose, but I used them for years and they were better then nothing

If you'll do a search, you'll find numerous threads on this subject.

I've owned Etymotic ER-6i's for about 4 years. Terrific fidelity, much better noise isolation than NR headphones. Some don't like in-ear design, but they work better for me, and I can fall asleep on a plane with these on.

This link will show you the specs (http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.aspx), and this link will show you where to get them for under $75. (http://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-Isolator-Earphones-White/dp/B0002ZW5W4)

I have been using these: Audio Technica ATH-ANC7 (http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-ANC7-ATHANC7-Noise-cancelling-Headphones/dp/B000OMKR8E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256555163&sr=8-1)

I took them to Afghanistan and have been on 747s, C 5s, C17s, C130s, Blackhawks and Chinooks and these headphones were comfortable and worked great. I highly recommend these and they are much cheaper than the Bose ones.

Thanks for all of the good advice. I am going to try ScottC's recommendation first and just placed the order via Amazon that he recommended.

Yes, I have the PXC 300 Senns and a pair of QC2s. The sound is similar, maybe a bit better with the Senns. The noise isolation is better, somewhat with the Bose. The Senns are smaller and easier to carry. Overall a great buy in active NC.

I personally dont like the bose and I have an array of headphones at home (DT770's, Sony SA3000, Denon D2000's, Senn's) to compare too. I picked M-Audio in ear for flying. IE30's. NOTHING beats the noise cancellation of in ear except they dont have a ton of bass. Its something like -20 db.
