Swiss International Airlines - Question about booking JFK-BOMView Full Version : Question about booking JFK-BOM nas6034 Oct 21, 09, 10:08 pm So on my outgoing my flight get intos ZRH at 1055am and and doesnt depart until 10am the following day so basically an overnight layover. TIA f4freeJunior Oct 22, 09, 4:29 am Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaE51-1/100.34.20; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413) unfortunately you will have to organize your own overnight stay. Also the airport is closed overnight. But zrh is only a 10min train ride away from down town zurich. There is also an airport hotel you might want to consider. Unfortunately LX is not like QR in DOH. Unterwegs Oct 22, 09, 6:18 am ZRH is expensive - especially with the current exchange rate of the US$. Public transportation is great. I would stay downtown (the area around the airport is pretty boring), take the train and then tram. YuropFlyer Oct 22, 09, 6:36 am Actually you can have a very nice day in Zürich for not too much money. As I assume you'll only have a handluggage with you, I would suggest you put it somewhere at the airport. A ticket for the whole Kanton Zürich costs only around 20$ for a whole 24h, or even cheaper if you only want to visit Zürich. With the whole Kanton, you can also make a boat trip on Lake Zurich to Rapperswil (around 2hrs/way) - something I would suggest as you can sit inside and enjoy the landscape. Back with S-Bahn every 15 minutes. Also, you can enjoy various cables in Zürich or around, or just hanging around in the city. Most cinemas in Zurich show movies in original language, so you can watch a movie in English too (which will be rather expensive, even the discounted tickets are more than 10$) - or you can go for one of the various Museums, like Landesmuseum, directly located at the central train station. Don't take a Taxi in Zurich unless you absolutely have to. There is excellent public transportation everywhere. About a hotel, I would suggest something like Formula1 (quite near the airport, only around 60-80$/night) or Ibis, unless you want to spend a lot. For eating, if you want to save money you can always look for a "Coop Restaurant" or a "Migros Restaurant" where you can get decent food for around 15$ for lunch or dinner (including softdrink) or use a Take Away which can be found everywhere. Regular restaurants offer priceworth lunch menus for around 20$, dinner is usually more expensive, but as long as you don't go for absolutely touristic places, still affordable (30-50$, if you don't drink wine) Credit Cards are relatively widely accepted, but it might be better to change some Swiss Francs as well. Exchange ratio to the Dollar is pretty much 1:1, so comparing prices will be very easy. Euro is also widely accepted. About taking the Train, you can now directly take the New Airport Tram line, if you want to see more from/around the airport (S-Bahn drives subway there) but it's nothing special. If you're interested in anything special, drop me a line and I'll be glad to give more informations about anything you like to see. LoungeLizzard Oct 22, 09, 2:18 pm How about switching from LX15 to LX17? LX 17 arrives at 8:15 and connects perfectly to the BOM flight. So in case you can make it in time to JFK to catch LX17 and you don't actually want a layover in our lovely City, you could see what it costs to rebook to LX17. |
