I am sure he will be good.
There is a lot of work waiting for him and many unions will make some
problems.
he needs to remember that WE are the most important thing for ELAL
We want better seats in C and F

While a new Y seat might be nice as well the seats in C and F are much more warranted IMHO because both the C and F product is not really competitive compared to european carriers like LX, BA or LH.
Looking forward to some real enhancements.

Intresting what makes them think, that somebody who's experiance is in running an air force, would be good at running an airline.
Looks like they want him to invest to give ELAL more of an air force style, that's not going to be great for service, and of course not for C and F class seats, I doubt there are many of them in the air force.

I second that. It would be interesting to read the board meeting minutes, if such exist.

There is a little problem with Eliezer Shkedi (or Shkedy), He have several "warrants" against him in the uk and other countries regarding the 2006 war "crimes" (I wonder how Kadafi/Ahmenijad or any other nice persons dont have such issuse in the uk and only us have!)...
ELAL - Regarding your comment on his army "resume", You forgot from

I wish him and us all the best...

At least you could try and explain that they have experiance and understand security issues Etc, which is an important thing for an high ranking israeli gverment minister (at least for some positions).
But are they taking a new CEO only to run ELAL's security issues?! What type of business experiance do they get in the IDF?

...
My thoughts exactly - Does he have any business experience (if yes I apologize in advance)? I know that you can perhaps compare an army force to a large company organization wise but I fail to see how they compare commercially/business wise.

I think that Romano was involved in the business world before he came to LY (Cellular no?)

He was with Partner (Orange Israel) as was Amikam Cohen LY's Chairman (Romano was Cohen's number 2)
And the previous CEO before Roman, Amos Shapira is now CEO of Cellcom, another Israeli cellular company.

For the defence minister yes, not for Transport, Tourism etc.
Some of them have proven to be an absolute disaster.

There are so many differences, especially since an airline should be a service-oriented company whereas the air force has no need for niceties.
Also, as far as budget management goes, he will need to get used to the fact that you can't run to your father (the government) every other day with horror stories and scenarios in order to get more money.

Never! You may be right that the Y product is awful as well but IMHO that applies to almost every Y product in the industry. I don't have a problem to fly Y on trips of less than ~2.5h and do so regularly if I can save some money. On long-haul trips and especially red-eye flights I try to avoid Y be all means. SQ Y and the Prem Economy products of some airlines are the only once I find bearable.
But let my explain my comment above. I'd probably buy an Y tix on LY to/from Europe at a competitive price no matter the seat/product - normally Y is not fun on any airline. If I spend 1k+ EUR for a tix to/from Europe anyway I expect a good product such as BA, LX, LH. Given the alternatives in and our of TLV I won't most likely opt for LY.

As someone that flies over 100K miles/year in Y, the 767 Y product of LY is worse than at least 9W, IT, RJ, TG, LH, QF, TK, NH, JL. The 777 Y product of LY is not that bad.

Thanks for the information and educating me ^ I wasn't aware that the LY 767 product is that awful but it's good to know. There is always something to learn here on FT :)

The Senior Exec VP for Ops & Planning at SQ was also an ex-general parachuted from the Republic of Singapore Air Force, and his impact wasn't entirely appreciated either both inhouse (inhouse joke at one time calling SQ the Republic of Singapore Airlines) and by a few customers (like the removal of the Mega Top etc names from SQ birds, removal of the Raffles class brand name from SQ C, which were attributed to the airedale).

Haim Romano, Started in 1998 his "public" life in Orange, And moved in 2005 to
EL-AL (In Orange, He advanced every 2 years higher in his Job description).
Shkedi goes directly from the army to EL-AL (4 months as civil if i am not wrong), But have impressive education Resume, Not to mention the things
he have done in the air force, He was always no. 1 in what he did.
The fact he came from the Army shouldnt be a problem to my opinion..,
EL-AL need a leader...
