Travel Technology - Does Android support Exchage out of the box

Just a quick question for our assembled experts. I've seen the HTC Tattoo and think I'm in love....

It depends on the phone company build. Some do, some don't.

The ones that have it, have it as an HTC application.

There are also some third party apps that do it, but the HTC one is of course free.

Keep in mind that the Tattoo has a resistive touch screen, which isn't as nice as the capacitive ones on the other Android devices.

Thanks very much for the advice and for that final reminder. I'm also in love with the Hero but think I will wait for the next Donut based model they release that's in the Hero's category (or higher).

FWIW, the Samsung Moment on Sprint does; my current client's Exchange server doesn't play very well with many third-party Exchange clients, but I had no problem synching to the bundled client (Moxier Mail).

My T-Mobile branded My Touch 3G (HTC Magic renamed by T-Mobile) supports exchange email out of the box. I think contacts and calendar would need a third-party application such as Companion Link to interface between Gmail / GCal and Outlook.

That being said, if you are tech savvy and root your android phone, most of the free custom ROMs out there (Like Cyanogen ROM) will support exchange email.

My Droid (using Android 2.0) is fully supporting Microsoft Exchange right out of the box.

I don't know what that is exactly, but it's been said that my current client's Exchange Server won't work with a number of clients 'cause of security issues, so perhaps Moxier Mail does?

The original G1 does not support exchange out of the box, but I bought a very inexpensive App - Touchdown - which works like a charm. It supports ArtiveSync and push and synchs my mail, contacts, and calendar perfectly.

Basically is a policy defined by Exchange Admin and push to device clients that enforce password requirement, expiration and remote device wipe, etc. Most companies running Exchange 2003/2007 has make that mandatory requirement in order to allow devices connected to Exchange. (Which is why iPhone is not allowed for most workplaces)

Base on what I've read on Moxier Mail it is licensed with Exchange ActiveSync which should support all features including Exchange Security Policy. But will have to test it to find out.
