Unless SK can persuade CO to leave the ARN route the SK soon will have to stop their EWR route. It seems like they are always unable to compete with other companies...

The JFK-ARN route will be instead of ATL-ARN, and it will be down graded drom a 767 to a 757, thus a net reduction in their US-ARN capacity

I distinctly remember flying DL ARN-JFK in 2000, but it was on a widebody back then. It's good to see more competition at ARN, even if I wouldn't touch DL with a six foot pole.

I personally would never pick DL over SK. It would be sad if SK dropped ARN-EWR, but like so many other moves by SK recently this would come down to bad management more than anything else.

EWR will be the best intercont destination for SAS with CO joining *A (big hub there), so if they are to keep long haul ops EWR will not go.

Nice! 757 not so much. Lets see if they announce JFK-GOT again.
Still long to see a US carrier in HEL, would help with the prices I hope.

Which would again open up possibilities for SAS on ARN/CPH - CLT. ;) And to a lot of US Airways destinations all over the Southern states from that hub.

I welcome the entry if only because this will make for better prices for NYC-STO than would otherwise be the case.
Other than that, DL's frequent flyer program is not great value and even worse for those interested in European-based/-originating award tickets. I say this as a long time DL Pla tinum.

Yes, those were the good ol' days. DL got that route from PanAm and kept it going until spring of 2001, I believe. The Telecom crash probably took its toll there; I think AA stopped flying on ARN at about the same time.
Good to see the connection coming back.

It is going to by busy from Scandinavia to the East Coast next summer.
Well not quite as busy it seems, ARN and Scandinavia is also loosing some connections:
US is terminating its ARN-PHL service - it will not commence again for summer 2010.
On top of that we have the already annonuced CPH-SEA (SK), ARN-ATL (DL) and ARN-JFK (MH) -which I admit only is for East Coast.
So in total a zero sum game for CPH-US routes and a net loss of 2 ARN-US routes. :(

How many seats a week are being lost on just CPH/ARN-US?
Award seats are not going to be any easier to come by as DL and SK are both very miserly when it comes to making seats available for general award redemption purposes on the Scandinavia-US flights. CO is also not generous.
