Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - JFK-via-Vancouver-HKG Y very uncomfortable

The last few times I took this leg I flew J, and so I just noticed this today as I flew Y. I notice the seats are different when the magazine rag is in front of me rather than under my legs. At first I love it because I found the new Y seats with the magazine bag under my legs almost impossible to use. However, my gratefulness stopped there.
The seat just seems different and very uncomfortable. Is the configuration of the Y seats on this particular flight different or is it time for me to take a long vacation?

I posted about this several months ago. It's a move from CX as they have been receiving feedback about the rather inconvenient location of the literature pocket. Whether they are going to refit all the other 74As though is another question...

Thanks, but the seat itself is exactly the same? If so I am in big trouble...

Haha well, I'm willing to guess that Y for 16 hours is pretty uncomfortable regardless of where the magazine rack is ;)

I found CX Y seats to very uncomfy compared to other airlines for long haul. They seem narrower and even for a woman it's very very cramped. The 2-5-2 config makes it even worse (last time I flew). I usually choose to fly CO or other airline if I can.

When I flew LAX-HKG-SFO on the 74A in July, I thought it was okay. Also, which type of CX aircrafts has 2-5-2 config? At least I am not aware of any.

Which route is this? Like buschoi mentioned, don't think there are any 2-5-2 config in CX fleet.

Not in current CX fleet. I think CX L-1011 was 2-5-2. adamak must have flown CX a long time ago.:p
CX uses the same aircraft for HKG-JFK-YVR-HKG. The flight via YVR is the exact same one for HKG-JFK nonstop.

These are only on certain type of 77As. The older 77As have the magazine rag on the bottom while newer ones have the rag in the traditional spot.
As a regular CX888/9 traveler, I have a complaint about the seats as well. There was a sharp plastic object underneath my seat which scratched and eventually made a little cut on my leg as I wore shorts. Tried to talk to FA about it but they could not do anything about it. Part of the lifejacket/IFE box I assume.
Also, no such thing as a 2-5-2 Y config in the current CX fleet.

Yup. Almost 5 years ago, JFK-YVR-HKG. I have since avoided CX Y and use miles to sit upfront on SQ. :)

Nope - in the last 10 years, the only 2-5-2 config planes were the 772s. They were subsequently reconfigured to 3-3-3. But in any case they never flew on the JFK-YVR-HKG route. 5 years ago that was 744s with 3-4-3 configuration in Y.
