Hertz - Regarding usage of Citibank credit card for covering LDW for rental cars

I know a lot has been discussed in the past regarding rental car LDW coverage by credit card but since I am a newbie to renting car, let me introduce myself.

I am a visitor to US and will be travelling a lot in the US for the next 3 months. I need a car to do all my travelling and hence I have decided to rent a car. I have a few questions which need to be answered:

1. I have a Citibank mastercard which was issued in India. Can I use that card to cover my LDW?

2. If No.1 is not possible, can I go for some other insurance coverage other than the rental car ones?

If No.2 is possible, which are the insurance companies that will offer me a decent/cheap quote for renting a car?

Not all credit cards offer the same type of coverage so it is difficult to say exactly what will and what will not be covered. It would best to contact your credit card company for the specific details. However, I have never heard of any credit card covering a 90 day rental. Most have 21-28 day limits. Having said that, one of the options to get around that may be returning the car whenever you reach your limit. If you choose that option then make sure you check with your credit card to make sure that consecutive rentals are permitted.

Either way, credit cards will not "cover" the cost of LDW. LDW is offered by the rental car company itself. You need to decline LDW if you want any credit card coverage to kick in. LDW & credit card coverage are two entirely different options. If you do rent for the three months in one rental then you would be eligible for a discounted LDW rate and I think it is $9-12 / day.

I'm not sure who would offer policies for visitors to the US to cover just a rental car. Not all will offer it but I have heard of a few that were able to get coverage. I would start by calling State Farm & Progressive.

Finally, credit cards & LDW only cover the car itself. They do not provide you liability coverage. Most rentals will come with state minimum coverage included but in the US minimum coverage is awful and I wouldn't want to rely on it to cover my costs in an accident...especially considering how everyone around here is looking for a lawsuit.
