The title says it all. What is the best way to cash points at their highest value cashwise. Most redemption offers seem to be a half penny a point or less?

Sure those are great but they are more a "sale" type of thing. No? Side Question: Do free nights count towards status? I guessing not but who knows? dgwright99 Oct 19, 09, 12:31 am Mexico has a half off points sales for most of the rest of the year. I have $300+ rooms booked at the IC Cozumel Thanksgiving week for 20k/night - which is about as good as I've done since the devaluation (other than PBs of course). The 30k ICs can be a great deal, as can 10k HIs. One way to get a good deal is to book a first night with cash for a room that is well above the room you'd normally get on points (any brand), and then book the rest of the stay on points (best to email ahead and get the hotel to agree to you keeping the same room). Several times I've gotten 2BR suites at Staybridge ($250+/nt) for 20k pts/nt that way. I won't use points for less than 0.8 cents/pt net (ie after accounting for the points I would have gotten for a paid stay). Given that you can buy effectively unlimited points for 0.6 cents/pt using the cash & points cancellation trick, booking stays for anything less than 0.6 cents net is a suckers game. |
