Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - CX Computers Censored in KUL Lounge

I was emailing a colleague today about a peed-off customer and to my surprise noticed that any profanity (i.e. pi**ed-off) was replaced with '....'

I thought it might have been a setting gone awry in our webmail software but no, the same thing happens in Word, Excel etc. I don't remember encountering this in any other CX lounge.

Anyone else run into this and where?

One of the problem is ... Part Freedom of Speech actually include freedom to sware ...

May be CX has their parental control turned on? Though most of the time it's adult using it, sometime kids use them too ...

At least it's better than censorship in Mainland China.:( (btw, is FT blocked in China?)

No, at least couple of weeks ago it was working okay. :)

FT is accessable in China, unlike Facebook, Oneworld.com etc., so if you have anything to say about the communist party say it here! :D

I just love this "freedom" card being throw around. When you're using a free service provided by a private corporation then you are going to obey their rules, and no you don't have freedom to declare anything as it is not public service, but private service. When the government orders you not to swear then you can throw out this freedom of speech card.

And yes, as many others have already said, the OP actually got worked up because he couldn't swear using free Wi-Fi? Please....

I second that.

CX is providing the service, so you have to abide by their terms. Further the OP said he was using CX computers (by the title of his post). Therefore he was using CX hardware, again its really up to CX to dictate how one uses their hardware.

Would you have the same thoughts if the same issue happened at work?

As we are talking about "freedoms" here, its a free world, no-one said you had to use the CX computers. If you don't agree with their terms, don't use them.

Not related to CX but I recently came across with one lounge where they had blocked Facebook and Youtube completely due to the security reasons (exact reason was that there is too many viruses being spread through those sites). VPN to the rescue. :D

You guys are just the best.

What the OP said: hey, I noticed CX computers seem to be censoring my text, weird huh?

What some posters read: HEY, CX are censoring me and I am INCENSED

Don't get your collective knickers in a twist because somebody is writing very mild profanity on a public computer and finds it a bit childish to have 'piss' and 'crap' bleeped out.

No problem with them blocking that stuff if they want but please don't automatically edit my emails, it's just childish.

Writing rude words: Type an asterisk between each letter and the next.
Reading better sites: CX have had a bloody NetNanny programme at the Wing for years. It blocked my car club site becauseit had a risque name - "pinkcore". How daft was that? And no, there was nothing they could do at the desk....
