Virgin flying club - Thru check bags HKG SYD AKL??

Hi - hope someone can help. We are flying HKG SYD on VS, then wanting to go on EK from SYD to AKL. We want to through check our bags on Virgin from HKG all the way to AKL on EK - will the HKG check in staff allow this on 2 seperate tickets? Our connection in SYD is only 1.30, will be fine if just transit but no hope if we have to pick our bags up. Anyone done through check to another carrier with VS in HKG?

Recently did exactly the same route on VS/EK. Initially staff at HKG were reluctant to check baggage all the way through, but after a bit of persuasion they agreed to do it.

Bags turned up at AKL- so it can be done!
