Hello everyone
Quickie please:
Are the J class seats on the 777200 from SIN to MAN the same as the SIN AMS ones? The space beds?
Thanks in advance

Yes.
Though a tip if you are looking at those flights is to fly into MAN and out of AMS, as that way you save the on having to pay new punitive departure "greenhouse" tax from the UK.
I am doing this next July MEL- MAN and AMS - MEL and going train in-between.
Going the other way would have cost a fair bit more for my party of 4.

ooooooooo Thanks for the tip....
Works out well as it doesnt matter where we fly out of - just need a connecting flight from BCN.
So how much is this extra tax (approximately?) - just curious

Definitely a smart advice. Not sure how much extra UK charges for departure but I know it is a lot.
Also I found AMS much more appealing than LHR (not sure about MAN). Also great place to have long transit as there are plenty of trains to go to city from airport.
Trains is always the way to go within Europe if travelling distance is not too far, and you can plan ahead to get really cheap fares.

That depends on how far you fly (it is based on distance !!!)...and when (it is increasing over time)...and how (more expensive tickrts have to pau more)

.
It can be up to 170 English Pounds each!!!!
In my case it would have been over Three Hundred Pounds for the 4 of us!!
So flying in and not out was a nice little saver.

So is it just departures from London more expensive or arrivals as well?
First time to fly in 30 years + bringing famil - all up x 3 Business Savers.
Have booked Business Savers x 3 Syd-Ams. If Business Savers become available on A380 may swap to fly into London or maybe Spain somewhere.
Booked Business Savers x 3 for flying out from Rome-Syd. May depart Zurich if Savers become available. Does anyone know if Zurich is more/less charges than Rome?
Thanks all
The APD tax affects all UK departures. No impact on arrivals

APD tax from the UK is based on class of travel and distance. You did not say which class of travel you were booked or whether or not you were breaking your trip in AMS.
But I assume you are breaking your journey as, in an earlier posting, you mention taking the train to Amsterdam from the UK.
In which case, if you were booked in economy class to AMS from a UK airport then you would pay the APD tax for a short flight and that will be GBP11 per person.
The higher, ie UK to MEL, APD rate would only be payable if you take a direct flight from the UK or are making an immediate connection at an en route airport.
So where did you get the figure of GBP300 from ? Just curious !
Train travel can be the way to go within Europe but some journeys are easier and faster than others. London-Amsterdam, for example, is much faster by air (60-80 mins) than by train. The latter takes several hours because a change is needed in Brussels. The plan is for Eurostar (the high-speed train which uses the Channel Tunnel) to eventually run right through between London and Amsterdam. But that development is some years away because of technical problems (mainly involving the Dutch signalling systems which are different to those in Belgium, France and the UK).

I am lookng to fly in/out to MEL from AMS as it was the one place where I could get a Star Alliance Business redemtion ticket on SQ for on the dates I want: next February. Will get a connecting flight with KLM from the UK.
I see its a 777-200 plane and wondered how decent the Business Class product is? I've done LHR-MEL on SQ business on the 747 a few years ago and loved it. The spacebeds now dont look as good as the new business product but it still beats sitting back in economy for 20 odd hours :D
Anyone care to add their thoughts, experiences...?
